The List - Respectable Weights by Exercise
« on: December 19, 2008, 12:07:06 PM »
This is a guide for Getbiggers to show them what is considered a respectable weight to be using in specific exercises for 8 reps. These targets are designed for natural weightlifters. Feel free to add your opinion if you think there is an error or if you want to add more exercises. :) If you can't get to your natural limit of muscle size with these weights then you might aswell stop there because any heavier is just gonna put you at risk of injury.

Bench Press - 315x8
Squat - 405x8
Deadlift - 495x8
Dumbell Biceps Curl - 65lbs each handx8
Dumbell Shoulder Press - 100lbs each handx8

Here's the T-shirt that comes along with it. Almost as good as a Tapout shirt.

I think these weights are more than respectable other than the DB shoulder press.  I'm good for the first two and also the last one.

The dumbell shoulder presses seem oddly juxtposed with the rest of those weights. Anyone agree?

315 bench for 8 reps but your only shoulder pressing 70 lb dumbells.

Exactly if someone can bench that weight for 8 I'd expect they can shoulder press about 250-275lbs. for 6 reps or so.

i've gotten 315x7 and my best DB press is 105x3, and my shoulders are piss poor. if you're getting 315 for reps on the bench, the 100s should be pretty easy generally speaking.

I was thinking the exact same thing...most everyone ca do 70's for 8 with some training...but 315 for 8 is alot more rare to see

Best C&J was 120kg. Did it this week. A new PB.

Best snatch was 105kg, last week.  I have an easier time with this lift, for some odd reason.

The clean is the hardest part of the lift for me. I can front squat, split squat, and overhead press way more than I can clean. Just need to get stronger there.
high pulls and high pulls off blocks, keep the bar in close and get up on your toes.
