Fair enough, but what are the criteria for this ranking? Is it every single provider in America? Is it quality of care? Is it length of time to wait for care? Is it access?

What I'm saying is that you parrot statistics and numbers that you Googled or just saw on a show somewhere. You copy and paste or just copy and paste. Do you truly understand the numbers? How they are acquired? Who compiles them? The political and national origin of those doing the research?

I'm in no way saying that American health care is the best ever, but do you truly understand what you are copying and pasting onto this board?

The answer is no.

access to health care, average age expectancy, birth weight, premature births, premature health care related deaths, things of that nature  ;)

well if they were to fuck up chances are they would fix the problem... if not provide adequate treatment... thats covered without seeing your premium / co-pay etc. etc. go up

I'm talking about foreign (asian) countries not the US.   I really doubt they would fix the problem without an extra fee.

Bull shit. There is health care for everyone right now. People are just too lazy to find out how. When I was out of work for about a year, I applied for and got government insurance. It wasn't the best but it covered just about anything I needed.

I had a buddie who has two children and a wife that looked at hundreds of diff health ins. plans the cheapest he found 4 his income level required him to pay out 1/3 of his monthly income to insure him his wife and two children.and that was before taxes.which as we know there goes another1/3 of your income.I don't know how much he make's a year but 2/3 rd's of his income gone before he paid 4 food or any other bills was not feasible.

My arm has cost my INSURANCE COMPNAY over $200,000.00 bucks.

That's two hundred thousand dollars.

I did not see ONE BILL.

I pay for my own health insurance...and for my former staff as well.

My hand surgeon, tops in the world, Yale guy, did a lecture last month in China.

He said their level of care is equitable to circa 1950-1955 Korean War standards.

Health care crisis m y ass.

Harden the fuck up.

'Nuff said.

Instead of slapping your back and bragging about your exceptionally good luck, just read the statistic which proves that you present minor group who have a. win the lottery or b. factually got some compensation from his insurance company. You should thank god for your luck and wish that you stay in good health for rest of your life, because that doesn't happen twice ton one man.

a female friend of mine just had kidney stones.  They had her on a ton of meds, she got a stint in the kidney, stones blasted, etc.

Her RBC and WBC counts suddenly reversed.  It was textbook from the particular meds she was on, and there were a wealth of websites which detailed her need to wait 3 months before panicking, as this was normal when the body endures major infection and major medication.  I looked it up for her, showed her there was nothing to worry about, and assured her that in january her cell counts would return to August form, before the infection.  They were already treanding back at 10% a month - not too much to stress.

Well, her doctor decided to throw her into a panic.  he said "RBC and WBC changes could be cancer!" and had her do a month of intensive tests.  She was terrified, crying all the time, worried about dying.  her next BC counts came, and she was trending further down - RBC and WBC were almost back to normal in Dec.  Still, despite the urgings of me, a Doc friend of mine, and the websites detailing this would happen, she spent the month worrying.

Finally the doctor finished up his battery of tests, charged her fat insurance company 70 grand or something insane, and told her she was fine.

A month of worry because this guy wanted the check.  She said his practice was always empty and it seemed like she was his only customer.  Piece of crap doc.

...he was probably too busy to have patients, always working pro bono in the county clinic helping poor people with no coverage.

Just ask Moosejay, this is how everyone gets treatment in the US.

That happens under a public system too because in some countries like Canada doctors are charged per visit and per referral.

For once Moosejay you are right. American health care is great for those who can afford it and shit for those who can not. And I quite frankly am content with that. You can not force people in America to work for free. Being a physician, I provide a service and not charity work. Nothing pisses me off than idiots that fight for socialized medicine. They want me to work for free, so I can provide for there lazy asses. FUCK that. I have recently joined a practice where we no longer take insurance payments, we take only cash and we send you the bill to struggle with the insurance company, and quite frankly my life has gotten so much better and my work more meaningful. I used to work for a university based system and that shit got old very fucking quickly. Taking care of welfare bums, country trash, ghetto trash, and overall assholes, made my life miserable. I went through close to 14 years of training to take care of people that are quite frankly a waste of my time. Now my patients are civilized well educated and most importantly respectful. Work has become enjoyable again. This model (cash only) will become more and more prevalent in America. Basic economic principles show that intelligence and innovation go hand in hand with compensation. Another words, all the smart docs will go to private cash only medicine, while all the idiots like 240s friend doc, will be under the socialized system. Quite frankly, the average American is too stupid and too idiotic to even deserve decent health care. Next time you have appendicitis go pray to Jesus (like typical Americans) and see what he can do, when that fails, come to me we accept cash, check or credit.

By the way I am an American but America is no longer the free enterprise hard working country that it once was. It has turned into a welfare state that is run by either religious idiots who believe in fairy tales, or bleeding liberals who forget how quickly socialism can turn into facism. But this is an issue for another thread.

Our optometrists and dentists work like that.
You pay with cash or a credit card then you deal with the insurance company yourself.
As a user it sucks. I can see why you like it though.

You sound like a first-class asshole.

You're #1.

Your bedside manner is on par with Frank Burns.

Judging by your grammar and sophistication of thought, I'd say that you are a garbage man.

Sorry I didn't now that having a degree in English leads to some credibility, but since man of you guys have brought this up, maybe I should scan my medical license, I think I will, depending on how much effort it takes. Regardless, it would be good to hear some educated retorts as opposed to insults. Then again, this is getbig and insults are all part of the entertainment. With that being said, do you not agree with me?

...seeing as you Americans elected a functionally illiterate retard president (twice!), I see no reason why another functionally illiterate American couldn't get a medical license... or at least an American medical license.

There is no hope here, "bodybuildermdpitt"... you owned yourself by claiming to be an MD yet being unable to write coherently (even with spellcheck).

If you do indeed post a scan of your license, I won't be owned... the AMA will.

If you want to pretend that you have some kind of education, you shouldn't expose your stupidity right away when you write a first sentences, because it shows that you are just another teen- idiot. Do you really think that in those countries, where health care is uphold by state, doctors work for free? In fact, in every western countries doctors are working for top dollars, never for free.  Furthermore most countries have two health care systems, one funded by state, and another based on business, so you can work part time in a state hospital and part time in private practice. In Finland most doctors have two careers and they have great income by that. You guys doesn't understand that your system is just a scam to cash out, get as much dollars as possible by doing nothing more than selling insurances which doesn't guarantee nothing but which you must pay in regular bases. With state health care your doctors earn just as much as they do now, but your insurance companies (which you don't even need with state health care) will die. That is what they afraid, because there is billions involved in that business, and where is billions of dollars, there is greedy bastards to claim that money for themselves.
