before you started working out? For me i'd say

-there are other body parts besides arms and chest
-"eating big" is a fallacy and will most likely just put on fat
-always take time to warm up. It's better to take 10 minutes and do it, then hurting yourself and be out for three months.
-doing high reps won't get you "cut".

This. I used to think that it was possible to get to 240 at 5% all natural.

Same. I also wish I knew how to lift properly before I started working out. None of that 1/4 rep bullshit most teenagers do.

Here's a few
(of many) that have made a difference FOR ME:

1. Focus on compound lifts and getting strong at them.  The goal being squat 400, deadlift 500, bench 300 (i personally don't bench, but it is still a good goal)
2. Your routine should center around the squat
3. Eat 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight
4. Workouts should last less than 45min.  Max one hour.
5. Forget about isolation exercises until your are advanced
6. I personally think workouts should be no more than 3 days per week.
7. One week off every 8-10 weeks.

Outstanding advice from Jorgen and also Mass04. Trouble being, most young guy's do not want to listen to solid training logic. Too swept away by the glossy  BS muscle magazines out there. And the over priced supplements, most worth less than garage. Good Luck.

Yep same here.  Even the smaller guys though you see in a general fitness mag I thought was attainable.  No way.  Only one way to get there.  The other crushing blow is you lose that shit fast when you come off.  Anyone who says different is full of shit.

Alot of things, but ask me the same question next year and I'll likely tell you the same answer. Even now, I find new things all the time that make a big difference.

Agreed. Something I have learnt is to look at training and nutrition from a scientific point of view. Bodybuilding really is a science in many respects, especially when it pertains to nutrition.

Same here - it took me about four years of training before I had a "rough idea" that they "might" be on "something".  :-\

I personally wish someone would've taught me how to squat properly in my teens so I wouldn't be sitting here with two herniated discs.  :'(

• Like most I wish I would have known pros are not natural

• I wish I would have know about eating right, I used to add protein powder to McDonald's milk shakes from time to time when I first started lifting so I could bulk up faster

• I wish I would have known how easy it is to cook good healthy food at home rather than eating out 4 times a day struggling to find something that was body builder friendly and cheap

I guess I would say that I wish I had known that is important to train with intensity and not just go through the motions.

Also I would have like to know that you don't need to get fat and "bulk up" real big to put on muscle.

Jeez, my parents told me before I even started working out that pro bodybuilders use steroids.

I wish I knew how to eat properly, I started off undereating and with too much cardio that I couldn't avoid, then stopped playing sports, and ended up overeating and with no cardio.

I wish i had realised that an increase in bodyweight sometimes does not = a large increase in muscle size.

Basically i got fat.

I wish i had known that my body does not respond well to carbs.
I was bulking on the worst type of diet for my body. super high carb, moderate fat, low protein :(

This was the biggest for me. My dad always used to tell me "It's not how much you lift it's how you lift it."

It's sometimes hard to do it, but you HAVE TO check your ego at the gym door.

That squats to JUST parallel were bad for the knees.

Doing JUST the basics will build a better foundation.

Most supplements are a waste of money.

Dbells are better for chest development.
