« on: January 04, 2009, 04:05:50 PM »

smoke weed before you lift. great workouts. tons of energy, great mind+muscle connection.

even better if the gym is full of people, the that weed is gonna make you bust your ass even harder, as if everyone there is your audience.

Not good during, takes away energy and focus. Uppers would be a lot better. Smoking's definitely good after the fact.

Taking a hit, or two, before a workout will not give a great workout and tons of energy. And just the extreme opposite of a mind-body (very overworked term) connection. Unless you lace it with with PCP (any form), which will make your super strong for a short period. But rather than working out you may prefer to fight,  rip your eyes out or other strange stuff, which is not all that cool.

Uppers (higher grade or speed?) may attack the CNS way too much for a productive workout. You can lose focus because you have to do a 100 things at the same time, in your deranged state, and working out will not be of prime importance. Mild uppers (street or legal) could help direct focus. Some can be brought OTC. Good Luck.

BS, widely used in BB and NFL for extreme exertion.

Being somewhat familiar with the NFL (relatives, former and present and two family friends who shall be drafted this year from college...$$$$$), if a player is a user of higher grade stuff or speed he will be looking for a new job right away. Plus the potential of being the guest of the Graybar Hotel. Last thing the NFL wants is junkie players. The new Comm'ish is very, very strong on that. Check out some of the recent fines for just minor infractions on the players. Random pee and/or blood test is a gamble for most guy's. Even off season testing for some.

Doubt very many top Pro's/men are users of speed or higher grade stuff before working out. "Widely used" is a strong statement, unless you have witnessed such tweaking yourself. Drop a tab before a workout and see how it goes for you. Please let all of us know. Good Luck.

Fail. Referencing a couple of examples you know, and what the commish decides to do now has nothing to do with what has been done the past few decades. You should really try to get up to speed in the new year man, educate yourself on some sports history you missed.

Seems you might be living in the past 5 decades. Trying to prove me wrong (and anyone else who may dare disagree with you) is eating away at you or you are just plain delusional. In any event, you lose. Just making things up to suit yourself, or to make yourself appear the expert is going no where fast. Failure from the start.

And might we have an example of when and how the "widely used" high grade uppers/speed are used by BB'ers for workouts. Do you have personal first hand knowledge or are you making up stuff again? Or did you read about it a 30 years ago in one of you old muscle mags?

And might I add, Good Luck.

smoking weed before a workout is great, especially on a fun workout like chest, shoulders, or arms. leg day can be tough to come to terms with when you walk into the gym high, but i have never had being high affect my mentality when working out negatively. however, i will admit smoking after the gym is much more enjoyable.

Never seen it done before but I don't know if I'd use Cormier as my example for anything.  It seems like his love for weed and other drugs led him to care less and less about bodybuilding.

I use to go to town with a huge blunt, so much so that the reg. person wouldnt want to leave the room , much less work out. But after you start working out the PUMP is so much greater it feels incredible.... however those days are behind me as i sought help for that addiction and have been clean for 72 days now.

cool dude. weed can be addictive too. myself ive learned to control it after i took a looonng break. now im able to limit myself to maybe oce a week once every two weeks. the firs day or two after smoking i always want to smoke again, but i just will myself through it, like its a food craving and im dieting, then it goes away.

wow i'm surprised at how many people do this all the time. i used to smoke before working out when I was first starting to lift but that was just because i smoked all the time. it was pretty good for mind muscle connection. however i would not do that now. for doing any sort of high intensity work out I would not recommend smoking weed at all. it just makes you lazy and tired and i would not want to be throwing around heavy weights while stoned. i also would go so far as to say you will get a rep or two (or more) less than you would sober on most exercises (which kind of makes going to the gym pointless). would you drink alcohol before a work out? why not just have a red bull?

i train to failure in the 8-12 rep range... i use weight heavy enough that ill fail somewhere in there... but for that amount of reps tha actual poundage doesnt get insanely hevay...but for it is is very heavy to get that many reps..

ah okay i didn't mean what would be considered 'heavy' just what was heavy for you.  so you do squat after smoking weed with a weight that will make you fail at 8-12 reps and think that it improves your performance?

not my performance, but stimulate hypertrophy. yes. ill do power squats on a machine. i feel its superior to free weight squats for quad development.

Smoking weed generally leads to laziness, not today or tomorrow maybe but before too long you may find yourself watching cartoons downing ice cream instead of the gym.

PS. on the "speed" argument.... have any of you really seen a tweaker? They can't lift
