The agricultural industry receives billions of dollars in welfare every year.

Are you referring to the Food Stamp program?

I believe he means government kickbacks to farmers to NOT grow crops.

I'm sorry, are you trying to say that farmers are NOT paid to not grow certain things?

Dude, I can show you many articles that prove otherwise.

Who the fuck are you to question what I know because I read and am educated?

Farmers being paid not to grow things is an extreme form of subsidies...........but yes.  Overall the agricultural industry among others is very heavily subsidized.

Not saying that's not true, but again, you only say cut welfare... Welfare is not the problem... It's how welfare is designed... I actually have a fool proof method to fix welfare, but no one would want to hear it, so I keep it to myself.

...I know exactly what you are talking about.

But I'll say it out loud.

Offer every woman over the age of eighteen a cheque for $5,000 every six months when she shows up at the doctors office to be implanted with a contraceptive hormone dispensing nodule.

Just pop it in under the skin, a couple of stiches and voila!: no more periods, no more mood swings, no more pregnancies... for at least six months, till the implant dissolves. For girls under 18 a sliding scale is probably more appropriate; $500 bonus for 12 year-olds (just to be safe); scaling up to nearly $5,000 for 17 year-olds.

Might sound expensive, but guys will gladly pay the extra taxes involved for the benefit of living alongside horny unemotional tomboys. The government can make back most of the outlay (after a few years) by the dramatic reduction in welfare costs; followed by a dramatic reduction in crime; then by a dramatic reduction in the prison population.

Worst case scenario, a heavy tax on designer shoes would recoup most of the cost.

Offering a $50,000 bonus to every couple with IQs above 120 for each kid they have would also help.

Want kids? Forgo your $5,000 cheque.

Academic? Rather than work in a university for shitty wages, work in a university for shitty wages and marry some saucy librarian so you can rack up those bonuses!

Now that's thinking outside the box.

Hey moron, what company do you own or manage?????

You and your dope addict liberal friends on this board know absolutely nothing about private small business and the troubles faced day to day.

Many businesses get subisidies, not only farmers.

Yo genius... The point was about FARMERS and subsidies... That's what it was about.

End of story.

My response wasn't about EVERY small business owner... Just farmers who receive subsidies to NOT grow shit... Are you following along?

You are such a buffoon to think that I don't understand small business matters... I happen to not be in "small business" because my field thrives on BIG business... However, I am a silent partner in a couple of small business ventures and as a college aged student ran a small business.

Not that I have to explain shit to you.

Do not sit around and talk about shit you do not know... I'm SOCIALLY liberal genius... I'm more fiscally conservative than even you would understand, but I do know that you can't keep writing checks and not take in some money.

Again, I'm all about smaller government and cutting spending, but NO ONE is talking about cutting spending... Especially right now in this economy.

I wouldn't say tu is a far lefty 33386....

Many farmers are subsidized.  I don't know a lot about the programs so cannot comment intelligently.  Looking from a distance it seems like its a waste of $, but as with most things, I'm sure its very complicated.

There we agree.  Spending is a huge problem.  No one wants to talk about cuts because no one wants to offend a voting block.

Social Security ???  Seniors
Welfare of illegals ???  Hispanics
Planned Parenthood??? Women
Food Stamps - well . . . too many people
Govt Jobs - CSEA and the unions.

As far as farmers go, if farmers are to get subsidies, it should be to grow more, not less.

Absolutely...

Social Security should be gone... The rest should be changed drastically so that the people who need help get help and the people who just try to abuse the system get gone.

I'd cut the shit out of a lot of things.

I agree on the farmers... They should be encouraged to grow, not the reverse.

Also, these farmers who have farms but don't grow anything shouldn't get paid because their farm USED to grow stuff... People should be held accountable.

Eligibility for farm subsidies is determined not by income or poverty standards but by the crop that is grown. Growers of corn, wheat, cotton, soybeans, and rice receive more than 90 percent of all farm subsidies, while growers of most of the 400 other domestic crops are completely shut out of farm subsidy programs. Further skewing these awards, the amounts of subsidies increase as a farmer plants more crops.

Thus, large farms and agribusinesses--which not only have the most acres of land, but also, because of their economies of scale, happen to be the nation's most profitable farms--receive the largest subsidies. Meanwhile, family farmers with few acres receive little or nothing in subsidies. In other words, far from serving as a safety net for poor farmers, farm subsidies comprise America's largest corporate welfare program

The main losers in 2001 were the bottom 80 percent of farm subsidy recipients, including most family farmers, who saw their collective share of the subsidy pie shrink from 16 percent throughout the previous five years to 12 percent in 2001. This represents a decline of 25 percent in the share of subsidies received by these farmers.

At the same time, Chart 3 shows that the number of farms receiving over $1 million in farm subsidies in one year increased by 28 percent to a record 69 farms in 2001. Topping the list was Arkansas' Tyler Farms, whose $8.1 million bounty was 90,000 times more than the median farm subsidy of $899--and nearly equal to the total of farm subsidies distributed to all farmers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island combined.5

YES!!!

Like I said, check into who the largest recipient of farm subsidies is... It's TED M-Fn TURNER!!!

We are talking about SMALL BUSINESS here (last I checked), FAMILY FARMS!!! Not large agri-business.

Corporate farms are not the same as small business or family business. They are the SAME as GM, CVX, UAL, PG&E, etc... Only they make cotton or corn (and tobacco too, MM didn't mention that) instead of cars, gas or whatever...

Social Security should be gone

the streets would soon be littered with 50 million elderly people.

Starving, begging, some committing crime.  They'd surely spread disease, and lean on the fences of our kids' playgrounds.  They'd be walking the streets, as their rent $ stream would dry up.  And you've have the crazy Vietnam vets picking up their rifles to rob you and me for food.

Do you think about what happens when you suddenly stop giving money to tens of millions of elderly?

240.

I demand you and the rest of y'all give me money or I am going to go ape-shit.

I don't want to save anything over the course of my working life, so don't even bring that up.

You owe me. All y'all owe me... so pay up.

Now. Before I go all spider monkey on your asses.

:) :) :) :) :)

I'm saying they would quickly lose their homes.
They'd be living in alleys, eating garbage, getting all rowdy.

Social security was designed to keep society clean by giving people a steady income when they're old and can't work.  Privatize it?  LOL... have you seen these markets?  I think $ is safer in the mattress - although it's lost 45% of its value since 2001 just sitting there too :(

I hear this argument over and over again on this site... no one should have any entitlements; no one should get welfare; no one should have a pension; no one should have healthcare; blah... blah... everyone fend for yourselves... blah...

Can't you just summarize it to "Fuck orphans!"
