My nintendo Wii tells me that I am obese (by BMI standards).  Maybe it's right?

What did you put as your realistic goal for the up and coming weeks on wiifit?

I told them I wanted to gain 15 pounds in six weeks :)

They told me I'm already obese and need to lsoe weight.

The scale does a very sarcastic "Ah, you're gaining weight..." each time  >:(

There aren't enough "muscular" people roaming about to be giving added statistical weight. Even if people are muscular, they're about 190 lbs in the 5'10" range and that's tops, anything else is an outlier. You draw a sample of 100 randomly, about 30 would be fatties, and probably close to 50% would be slightly overweight, and maybe 1-2 guys that are muscular with good physiques who shouldn't be grouped in with the rest, but they are not common enough.
Spot on!

The BMI was not conceived as a measure of health or obesity, however it has a function as tool to identify trends in bodyweight and risk groups.

That's a King Kamali-esque picture if I've ever seen one.

Are you saying I peaked in 2001 and it's all been downhill from there?

I agree 100%.  For example 99.999999999% of people that weigh 235lbs @ 5'6" are very obese.  The remaining segment of the population is Dexter Jackson.  Bodybuilders do not represent a large enough segment of the population for the BMI to not be acurate for the population as a hole.
