never have.  I've been in the room with bands, jamming, where they've done it hundreds of times.  Never had any urge at all.  If I want a buzz, there's always a sexy glass of wine with my name on it.

Not on both..It does cause motivation problems when used more than the odd joint..

In regards to gateway , thats debatable I cant really see how a credible study could be done that tbh with you.

To be fair, any addiction can lead to amotivational syndrome. When I was working hard labor (rock quarry supervisor) it felt like everyday was my last day on earth I worked so God damn hard. The night shift foreman was a chronic and we all brought lots of weed and smoked on every break. We took extra breaks and always ended up hitting quota (and then some) whenever we smoked weed. It turns you into a machine as long as the gears are turning before the dreaded couch lock sets in.

Same thing with the gym. I've tried AAS and tons of recreational drugs and stims, whatever. But seriously, nothing tops the mind muscle connection you get with marijuana. MJ + dbol LOL!!! I'm half joking but also pretty serious. I know NPC competitors and a professional bodybuilder (IFBB pro) who smokes weed before workouts. Another IFBB pro I've met doesn't smoke weed anymore before he trains, but he's not opposed to the idea. He's been in the game for a long time but I can't say his name because he lurks here. Some people CANNOT smoke before the gym though, but to each his own. As long as the opinion is based on experience and intelligence, I can respect that. Propagandist statements make me immediately ignore anyone's opinion.

I'm all for people with chronic pain smoking weed instead of adictive pain killers.  I just don't think this shit should be 100% legal to where kids ect. without a med. reason are just smoking for fun.  I think it does have negative side effects.

For sure, dude. Kids shouldn't be using any drugs recreationally. The brain is a precious thing and the development through the adolescent years is pivotal for proper cognitive development. I confide to using psychedelics during my late teens, but fortunately for me I turned out okay.

I was honestly pretty suicidal and my intrigue for psychedelic exploration and expansion staved these feelings. Before I knew it I was meditating for months before I tripped and became pretty sound. I tripped a few times, some good, some bad, and I experienced complete ego loss on my last day of school. It was the most horrendous, lucid nightmare that you can't even fathom unless you're tripping on many different planes of existence. When I came down I had a glowing, somewhat "mystical" experience and felt closer to "God" and the universe than I had ever felt. By this time, I was sober enough to review my thoughts and many lessons learned. That was the single most important day of my life. I did a complete 180 and never looked back. Broke up with my stupid ass girlfriend, become closer to my family and true friends, started becoming wiser with my money and started investing time in my well being. So for some people like myself, psychedelics, even mild ones like marijuana, have played a significant role in my life.

In the context of "drug use" one may point fingers from their high horse but I don't care. They are the ones who are being deprived. Not everyone responds too well to this drug and that's cool as well. But for those who do, please feel no shame as long as you do so intelligently and respectfully.

Both of those myths have been debunked by hundreds of credible people. That's simply untrue. People who have addictive personalities will experiment with many drugs including marijuana, which is why the statistics suggest that it's a "gateway" drug. Studies over the past few decades have concluded that it's not a gateway drug.

People are beginning to accept psychedelics, including marijuana, to be a deterrent for hard drugs. My father has been addicted to pills and opiates especially after his second motorcycle accident. When he smokes marijuana, he's able to tough it out without heavy pain killers and sedatives. And the dude's had his femur broken TWICE in the past 5 years. Broke his back too. I'm amazed to see him walking. When he smokes the chron with us he's able to turn the other cheek from the bottle of pain pills.

Opiate pain pills are the worst.  :-X

My dad sold his opiates for heroin at one point. Smoked it and started mainlining it when he went on a bender. Got some extremely pure H and OD'ed. Hasn't touched the shit since. I feel for anyone who's got the opiate monkey on their back. I've seen people OD from opiates, kill themselves in a downward spiral of addiction or die from some sort of complication. They're nasty drugs when abused. Poor recreational value as your tolerance goes right through the roof too.

I know someone who's Dr. tried to get them off of opiates with Suboxone (which is an Opiate?) and they ended up abusing the Suboxone just as bad.

look around kids are smoking just for fun without a medical reason anyway. and if they have the money the guy with the weed is gonna sell it to them. at least if it was sold through an establishment bound by the law it would be harder to obtain without identification/someone willing to purchase for you. it was always easier for me to pick up a bag then it was for me to purchase alcohol when i was younger.

Thanks, man. He's doing well. I've seen plenty of others that weren't so lucky though. And may they rest in peace.

This is a pretty good song that relates to it. Sorry for dragging the thread off topic though. ;D

I used to smoke it right after I graduated high school, but I have to admit that I think it was a phase just to fit in with other friends who were doing it. I stopped around 20-21, and never had a desire to pick it up again since (I'm 32 now). I'm not saying it doesn't benefit some, but after a while it didn't seem to do anything for me anymore.

This again is your experience ,there are plenty more who have the opposite reaction to what you had..
Smoking the odd joint for most people will have little or no effect on health or motivation.once you become a "hardened" smoker then watch "some" turn into cabbages..the thing is you dont see it till you are away from it,I didnt realise how bad I was till I stoped..it makes you think you are doing a good job but to those around you that are straight it is a different picture..I cant speak for you because I never saw you stoned but I have worked with enough guys who blazed on the job ,they think they are doing an amazing job but reality is they wernt.

I used to train with a guy who liked to get stoned before training and he used to say "that was the best workout ever" which used to leave me thinking WTF , bro you trained like a girl..

As far as gateway is concerned , this like you say depends alot on the personality of the user but still remains very real for this type of person ,so studys cant say it doesnt lead to other things because for some it can..

I am no means on a high horse as Im a reformed heavy smoker myself so know the dangers of "abuse"..I was an all day every day smoker , I never saw a problem but to those around me that didnt smoke I was on constant go slow..

I think it should be alowwed for those with chronic pain , your Dad for one and I hope he is ok :)

Smoked hard for a few years in my youth.  It wasn't doing anything good for me and I was pretty bored with it so I quit.

I bought my first nickel bag in over ten years back in '06 & it's still in my desk drawer at about 80% full.  Been very lightly stoned three times since then.  At this rate a nickel bag should last me about 10 years.

I tried for the first time the day after I got out of the military.  Worst shit ever.  It was chronic (I guess that's good shit).  I took three hits and I was paranoid, talking in a southern accent and tripping out bad.  Worst shit ever.  Not for me. I'll stick with vicodin.

Weed is NO gateway drug, simple statistics. around 60% of inhabitants of holland have tried weed (remember, weed is legal there), the number of heroin/coke/whatever users is so much lower.

The chances of a person coming into contact with weed is far greater than harddrugs. Besides that even people with an addictive personality usually have the common sense to start of with soft drugs.

I think weed on a recreational basis (few spliffs in the weekend) is ok. Daily use is an addiction and I've seen a few pothead ex-collegues lay wast to their memory this way.

Just occasionally with friends.  Fun, but I wouldn't do it regularly 'cause it kinda feels like it's damaging my singing voice.

Love the high, the key is moderation without which the abuse of it or anything including something society-approved/legal like alcohol becomes negative. Most of the burnouts here who are anti-weed remind me of born-again christians, overdoing it followed by a reaction against it later. Stay balanced and it's a great, organic enhancer. Alot of the best music over the last decades was created within minds freed of the usual conventions.

As far as paranoia, that's a symptom related IMO to age/experience and context. Classic experience is getting completely disoriented smoking in social contexts. I'd say that for most that's a matter of getting aclimated to it while keeping the contexts to those that appeal. Get to know the right context for it and get used to it and it's not generally gonna be a problem, plus you can add a drink or two along the way to smooth it out further.

I can appreciate that. I don't agree but I can certainly agree to disagree, especially considering how you've actually smoked it. It serves more medicinal purpose in my life than anything. I get chronic migraines and I've tried a myriad of drugs that shot my liver, ironically INDUCED more painful migraines, etc. My doc got the forms to apply for a medical marijuana referral but I don't think I've tried enough pharms to qualify. Either way, I just go to the compassion clubs anyway or talk to the growers themselves.

Thanks for the kind words too. If someone's opposed to the idea of marijuana in a medicinal or recreational application, that's okay as long as it's not based on propaganda. For the most part, people in general suck dog dick. People have addictive personalities, are burnt out to begin with and ruin things for responsible, educated adults. I'm not trying to sit up on a high horse either (no pun intended), but I think I've got my ducks in a row. Good job, getting engaged, will have a house in the next few years, fucking stoked on life, etc... a toke here and there hasn't proved to impede my responsibilities. I mostly just toke when I get a headache, before the gym, before sex or when I'm with a good friend. I always smoke a minimal amount and make sure I get the maximum satisfaction from it, otherwise I won't even bother to spark one up.

Damn, this thread really makes me want to take a toke!! Chest day at the gym and I'm stiff, so I'll have a toke. Haven't had one in a few days. :)
