I'm not much of a fighter myself, so I'd like to learn some tricks !

Punching is all in the hips. It doesn't matter if you're doing boxing, muay-thai, karate, or whatever.

Once you get the timing of transferring the energy from your hips to your fist down - you'll know it.

Hips move, then the punch comes. It's not robotic though; it has to be one fluid motion.

You can also try to scoot forward at the moment of impact for even more weight added behind the punch.

The better you get at it, the less you have to move your arm.

Think of it as punching with your body vs. punching with your arm.

Otherwise you're just throwing an arm punch/lariat that won't do any damage unless you weigh 240+.

Just carry mace then.

That's the reason bounty hunters often carry mace: They don't want to risk seriously injuring someone and get in trouble themselves.

ah don't worry I have been in plenty fights and have gotten the shit kicked out of me on a lot of occasion, when you're really in a fight and scared to death you just do what you have to do, some run and if you cannot than you kick scratch and bite, it doesn;t matter as long as you survive.
No need to "learn" how to fight you forget it anyways when you;re in a fight

That's the major mistake most people make when punching.
Use a target (a punching bag or something) so you can gauge your progress, based on the estimated impact damage.
Muscle memory will kick in, and it will become a natural movement if you keep practicing it.

Ah...I didn't know you're in Ireland. I understand your predicament though.
I'd say it's always better to err on the side of caution.

When I was doing kyokushin.
All of my teachers taught me that you must punch using feet-waist.
Boxerdo that same. Thats why they look like dancing.

And one more thing,Kyokushin talk about this a lot but boxing dont.

The fist. Your fist should be formed complete. So you must push up with your fist.
If you fight with grove, its ok. But on the street, your enemy wont wait until you wear a pair of groves.
So, your fist should be complete. And try to hit the sand back with groves basicaly, but you must hit it with your bare fist to train your fist sometime.

Oh,,when you punch jab and straight,always trying to stay your elbow closed for the guard. Many people do that with their elbow opened, so they receive those punchs of their opponent easily.

We did that and I owned his ass haha.
