Branch Warren triceps training.............
« on: January 31, 2009, 06:24:49 PM »
damn no wonder he claimed 275 on lying barbell extensions, they're 3/4 close grip bench press, 1/4 extension, pretty impressive still but no wonder he tore his triceps, fast forward to :50.

actually in the latest MD he advises against doing skullcrushers AT ALL for fear of tearing a tricep like he did, that's the craziest looking extension i've ever seen, looks like a "JM Press" that powerlifters do.

looks totally dangerous, my elbows would be under so much pressure doing a movement like that.

and skullcrushers are fine, doing skullcrushers with bad form is what gets u hurt.

in all honesty

I haven't achieved anywhere near the muscularity of Branch...

but... Is that really effective tricep training?

Triceps are a weak muscle group in any kind of extension movement, so I tend to keep the weight at just under the point where my elbows start to feel the strain.

actually the form isn't bad at all for a JM Press but for a strict tricep extension it's terrible.

the form with 135 is ok for a jm press, but once he gets to 225, lord only knows what that is. its like 3/4 press with a little bit of extending.

yeah but that's exactly what a JM press is, 75 percent press and 25 percent extension, i've seen clips of powerlifters doing them in way worse form than Branch does there.

Those are basically bench presses to the face.

What I dislike about Branch's training is the hectic way in which it is conducted. Seems like no thought goes into any single repetition and how it feels.

ok i thought JM presses had more elbow flexion than what hes doing there. like a skullcrusher to the face.

i am opposite your opinion

his form is brilliant

ive never seen someone do that closegrip/skullcrusher exercise... branch trains very similar to ronnie in o that he is very connected to his muscles, its apparant to me by watching him train that he is focusing on the target muscle alone...  and that is good form...

Ill just say this though JM press or not, with that type of form is it any wonder that branch has torn both triceps in the past 3 years.

just by looking, it looks extremely effective. watch the movemtn, look at what muscle ALL the load is on. triceps.

much better than skull crushers with 'traditional form"

i agree here to an extent, i think he feels every rep in the target muscle, can never tell by watching the speed or form someone uses where they're feeling the stress on the muscle.

that is a purpouseful momentum, not to cheat the weight up, but to help him get better isolation in the biceps.  this is called rythmic training. victor martinez and ronnie coleman both train the same way.

ROM has little to do with contraction although it will depend on the exercise itself to a degree. (had to reword that).  ;D

look at the purpouseful momentum, rythm, use by coleman on pulldowns to the front and seated machine rows.

very effective way to keep all the stress on the target muscle, while using HEAVY weights

try going HEAVY on either of those using no momentum...all biceps

ok yea thats what i thought a JM press was, much different than what branch was doing.

branch was doing a bench press to his eyeballs lol, he just invented a new movement.
