Yes, very good for forearms and brachialis development.  Can do them either across the body, or straight up and down.  I feel them in my forearms more going straight up and down.

I really like these, when I first started doing them years ago, I could easily see the difference within a couple of months.

Yeah i like them. I don't do much direct bi work, but when i do, hammers is what i generally do. Sometimes i just run the rack, done in about 3 mins.
No doubt about it...

a hammer-curl is one of the simplest exercises/movements in Bodybuilding. I use it not all the time. I also take a look at my back routine, and then decide if i do Hammer-Curls in my Biceps workout or not....cause some back exercise will hit the brachialis too.

A good forearm/brachialis movement and they feel great and boost the ego when doing in front of a mirror.

Since I have focused on heavy back movements like weighted pull ups and heavy rows, I don't feel any need to do direct bicep work.

Because the biceps have 2 function (curl the forearm up + rotate your hand wrist = Supination), i think that doing at least one exercise with supination is a good choice, cause that function will not be stimulated in regular Back exercises.

One of the better bicep exercises is doing pullups/chins on a pair of swivel rings (360 degrees) or even gymnastic rings. As Charlys69 points out, twist/rotate the hand, wrist and forearm while contracting the two headed biceps. Excellent movement for taking the biceps to the limit. If in doubt, check the biceps on most experienced gymnast. Designed for super sizing your biceps if you give it a fair shot.

Can set up some swivel handles on a lat/cable overhead machine and see what happens. Might also try it one arm at a time for more focus bicep work. Including on rings. Good Luck.

I do hammer curls at the end of every biceps workout - seated on a bench and lifting both dumbells up simultaneously to eliminate cheating - I find them very effective.

i never liked them, i felt like my biceps were getting cheated from a more direct workout when i didnt rotate my wrist. i always looked at hammer curls as an inferior curl. i feel like all the desired effects of a hammer curl are achieved more sufficiently and efficiently during your back workout.

I like hammer curls but only for short periods of time.

If I use them too often, they lose their effectiveness.

I use db preachers and alternate db curls damn near year round.

but I only use hammers when I am burned out on the db preachers and alternates.

lately, I have been doing concentration curls with great results.

Hammers are good only if you like having big, strong arms.

Hmm sounds like a good idea.  I will have to give that a try next time I am in the gym.

I like them. One of the few bicep exercises i go fairly heavy on. I kep the reps low and the form isn't perfect, but really hits the bi's and forearms.
No doubt about it...

I noticed i big difference in my biceps when i did them in high school, now that i do them i notice the difference more in my forearm then the bicep but still a noticeable difference in the bicep. I do them across the chest and really like them b/c they are easier on the elbows but still a decent bi exercise.
