NSAIDS
« on: February 23, 2009, 08:17:58 PM »
I know anti-inflamatory drugs like advil, motrin have been shown to inhibit muscle growth as well as be hard on the kidneys and are not recomended for prolonged use. But I was wondering about the various injectabls nsaids available online. Same sides?

Examples?

short answer =
all anti inflammatory agents like nsaids will slow down muscle growth.

long answer=
post exercise inflammation is the jump start which causes the protein sysnthesis that occurs from weight training. anti inflammatory agents stop the production of prostaglandins, including the very anabolic and lipolytic prostaglandin pgf2a.

I figured so.  The injectables would bypass the kidneys though, correct?

No.  Both injectables and orals enter the blood stream.  Once in the blood, they will affect the kidney.

So I should just stick with advil I guess. It works well, the only reason for me to inject would be to reduce sides associated with otc ai's.

Take them as you need them. It's not as though muscle building will come to a screeching halt. People are being hypercritical once again with the whole NSAID thing. You would have to be taking that shit daily for a long time before it impedes your training, unless you put on sheaths of muscle every time you contract your muscle fibers, then I am mistaken. ;D

NSAIDS only affect total anabolic growth when used for a duration, not a one time occurence or so.

As far as injectible NSAIDS, why would anyone use them?

Seems pointless if they affect the body the same.

within an hour or so of taking any anti inflamatory, it will be inhibiting prostaglandin production.

example = you shouldnt take fish oil before or after training.

Yes, on some scale it does start with inhibiting prostaglandin and the overall healing process, but I don't see that affecting anabolism from one-time use.

I think that the typical dosage of fish oil (caps or liquid form) or COX inhibitors will not be enough to negate the production of prostaglandins to a detrimental amount. I would rather take an aspirin and lift weights as opposed to having a migraine, not lifting weights and not eating all day. I'd also rather enjoy a huge juicy salmon steak and not worry about the n-3 instead of banging back another shitty chicken breast.

I see what you're saying though, but we need to think of this in a bodybuilding application and with reasonable doses of anti-inflammatory drugs or foods. As long as no one's taking Tom Prince doses of aspirin I think we're ALL in the clear! :o ;D
