Well Washington is up to their old tricks with the ton of $ given to Haynesworth and the resigning of Hall.

Look for Cassel to go at some point.  They are also cutting old players and making room for the new wave.

Look for Vrabel to be part of a huge deal with KC and Cassel.

G-men going after Micheal Boley from the Falcons.4 year starter only 26.got benched last year for being to aggressive in a read and react defense.

typical Reese.not looking for the big contract big splash player.looking for a solid player while he builds through the draft.
...boring but effective.

Pats will get:
Either a big time player or a first and a third round draft pick for Vrabel and Cassel.  If they pull this off, it will be crazy.

warren
wilfork
seymour
mayo
thomas
bruschi
peppers

FUCKING UNFAIR!!!!

it's not like belichek and his goons to go after huge fa's.

lets hope it backfires

Something is up.  They have their first, two second rounders (chargers pick) two thirds (comp pick for Asante) two fourths and their day two stack.

They are making cap space right now.  If they pull this off, I would hope Belichick is given a bank full of money.  Can you imagine totally rebuilding a secondary and defense coming off an 11-5 season and hauling multiple high picks or coveted players for a backup QB taken in the 6th round?

Of course, none of this is a done deal....so we shall see.

You're on the money, but it would look like this -IMO:

warren
wilfork (lock up long term)
seymour
peppers (Elephant lb)
mayo
Thomas
(Draft another lb)
Guyton - Crable - Banta-Cain - Bru (in a limited role) - Alexander

(Draft or aquire #1 db)
Hobbs
Wheatley
Wilhite (Nickle)
(Draft or aquire saftey)
Tank Williams (Hybrid SS/LB)
Meriweather (ss)
Harrison as a rotation stop gab.

They run it about 30% of the time, currently.....but if you notice, there are now 10 - 3/4 teams in the NFL.  Back in 2001 it was only the pats and the steelers. I don't see him running it full time (because his players are not suited for it), but with the addition of Crable and Guyton they now have some guys who can rush off the edge.  The pats have been missing a true elephant linebacker since Ted Johnson retired, thats why I find all this Peppers talk so interesting.

I believe that the pats are rebuilding the team currently, but still staying competitive.  People thought of the D as old and slow, but if you look 90% of the D will be under 28 years old next year. Harrison will be kept as a stop-gap and a coach on the field, but he is on the back nine of his career.

The defense has given up the big play when it counted most in 3 of the last four years....they are on track to add the playmakers to stop that from happening again.  They are loading up for this draft.

when i think of the pats i think of the withering OLINE. they are old and weak.

They have a 3 man Dline that can collapse the pocket though..shit seymour at 300lbs at de is a monster and would be perfect for a 4-3 dt. throw peppers and end...thomas at 270 is an elephant lb if u ask me. Not too many 270lb OUTSIDE lb'ers. He's a true sam lb.

it's gonna be hilarious watching peppers drop into coverage.

By no means will he be a starting back, but he will be a great addition to LoMo, Morris, Faulk and BJGE.   People didn't realize that the pats had a top 8 rushing game last year.  Good cheap backs are a good addition.  Worst case he add's to the team in a limited role, best case we get a Corey Dillon type situation.

I think injuries and a rookie who needed to learn how to set protection (when he first started) were the source of the pats o-line woes over the first half of last year.  Dont forget, in 2007, the Pats line was the best in the NFL and Mankins, Light and Koppen were pro-bowlers.  Koppen and Neal were hurt for most of the year last year and that really screwed things up.  The o-line is young - but they did have a down year last year.

The stop-gap guys are jags.  Kasczer, O'Callahan and Hochstein are not pro bowl type players and they played a bigger role than they should have last year.

The pats need to draft a LT and move light back to his best position which is RT.  Mankins is one of the nastiest and best g's in the NFL, Light is solid, Koppen is a pro-bowl center and Neal ( who was hurt most of last year) is a above average run blocker.  But, as I said before, Kaszcer, O'Call and Hoch are jags and we could use a upgrade at LT which would fix the problem at LT with light at times.

Ravens sign CB Dominque Foxworth out of Atlanta. He's a home grown product from the U. of MD. Broncos drafted in the third round a few years ago. He should start alongside Fabian Washington.

Questionable signing in my eyes. Especially the money he received. 17 million in guarantees? To my knowledge he's never played a 16 game season. But he's very fast and likes to tackle so that's a positive.

Ravens lose C Jason Brown and Bart Scott to free agency. Both very good players who will be missed. But the Ravens have one of the best front offices in the NFL. Gotta think they know what they're doing. Hope they plan on keeping Jim Leonard over Dawan Landry at SS.

Didn't realize they were top 8 in rushing.  Did they run the ball more because Brady was hurt?

No, they have had an underrated running game to several unspectacular - but effective backs.  Maroney did rush for 500 yards in the 2007 playoffs, but as you know, he was hurt all year last year.

They run more than people think, but since they have guys like Welker and Moss, people tend to focus on the air attack.  It would be nice to get a big time back, but I don't think that compliments what the pats try to do with Welker.  To them 1500 yards is 1500 yards, whether one guy does it or four do it.

Cassel to KC
« Reply #20 on: February 28, 2009, 11:22:42 AM »
Seems like a great deal for KC, especially as they got two players one of which is a good QB. NE I think should've been able to get better value, but the whole story as to why they settled for this is unclear, factoring in the KC GM connection. In addition, it has to be considered that KC's 2nd pick is fairly high. The fact that Brady is not yet proven as a sure thing to last another season makes letting Cassel go questionable, but they might have had to do it and/or had some good replacement drafts in mind.

The compensation is surprising, because two years ago, the Atlanta Falcons got two second-round picks from Houston for a far less experienced quarterback, Matt Schaub.

Bill Belichick either didn't get a better offer, or he did one of his best friends, Pioli, a favor with a player Belichick wanted to put in a good situation; Belichick is very fond of Cassel. It would not be surprising to see Belichick make the deal with Pioli because both were trained under Bill Parcells, and Parcells always made sure he watched out for his lieutenants and helped them whenever it didn't hurt him.

First, I would like to say that I told you so ;)  Cassel would not have been traded if Brady was not thought to be fine.  Also, Bradys backup was drafted last year in the third round ( the highest the pats have ever taken a QB under Bill).  Secondly, Mike Vrabel was traded for a third round draft choice.  He is 36 years old and playing on the back nine of his career.  Thats the favor KC did for NE.  Third, Cassel was a UFDA who could have walked either way.  They just got the 34th pick in the draft for a sixth round ufda.  They now have the 23rd, 34th, 46th, 40th, 66th, 70th and all their day two picks in a great defensive draft.  There was a third team involved in this so the deal is not done yet.

You dont always have to get every scrap of money to make something a good deal.  Of course Bill did Pioli a slight favor, this is a win - win for everyone.  And I bet KC does the pats a favor in the draft.  I bet the pats go after Peppers.

Also, the pats might have wanted to send Cassel to a good situation, so they took a good deal to reward the kid for being such a stand up guy...instead of holding out for every scrap they could get and having the situation backfire on them.

Average stop gap/rotation guy in an emergency.  Good special teams player....he will never be a full time starter, imo.  I am high on Crable though.

Yea, i kinda figured that is what he is. I am trying to find out what happened to Earnest Shazor, he was a hell of Linebacker/Strong Safety.
