I think they're as nuts as everybody else from that side of the world...they can fight but they're not set up for that. Their most modern units are anti-terror guys...door kickers. The rest are armed with old Russian junk......just not as much old Russian junk as the Russians.

Maybe the Su-27 or the Su-37 are more maneuverable in a dogfight in close quarters (e.g. the "Cobra" maneuver) but our pilots are better trained and their planes aren't stealthy, if I'm not mistaken?

I'd say our guys still have the definite advantage--they could splash their target from miles away before the other side even knew they were there.

Oh hey, I just remembered--my cousin was an AF crew chief and told me a US pilot pulled a Cobra in an F-15 once... he was able to do it, but apparently popped a few rivets on the airframe from the stress.

Please let me correct a gew galse assumptions stated in this thread:

At NO TIME did the Russian plane EVER enter Canadian airspace, ...it merely approached it.
Canadian F-18's flew out to intercept the plane and turn it around. It did NOT enter Canadian airspace.

It came up on radar, ...and F-18 fighters scrambled to intercept it BEFORE it entered Canadian airspace.

Thats the point...splash em before they get close enough to fire something nasty. We have a unified command with Canada...the Canadian AF is very very good....conversely the Russians suck. If u have no money to train....u suck, not their fault. If u look at what just happened in Georgia, and really understand tactics, operations etc....it took the damm Russian AF multiple bombing runs over several days to destroy targets.....thats why they blew the shit outa Tiblisi, they were missing.
