Come to think of it -- - - - Where is Ben White?  he guaranteed a win at the NY Pro last year, got a dismal 6th, and hasn't competed since.

Why are these rookies disappearing?  Remember when guys like FLEX would turn pro and start winning shows?  What's with hibernating for 2 years, or doing one show and quitting?

The field is so competitive these days, and you need so much size to hold your own with the judges, that a lot of guys turn pro being smaller.
When they get to the big boys, they have to put on extra size, and I guess lately most of the newbies feel that it takes two years to put on size.
Look at Trey Brewer, he bulked up extremely fast, and it only hurt him. He's a phenom to most, but a flash in the pan to me. I think his physique suffered, and will still suffer in the future due to him bulking up that fast. People were giving him props for being so heavy, but he just got fat.
The two years off, seems to be so you can save your money, buy your "supps," put weight on slowly and then hopefully still be competitive enough with the big guys if anyone else still remembers your name.

Chick just said the upcoming NY Pro would be perfect for these guys.  yet they're all avoiding it.

Well the current crop of Top amateurs arent at a level where they could be competitive on a pro stage immediately after turning pro,Phil Heath being an exception,but he still forewent 2 Olympias because he didnt feel ready to do some damage at them.Evan should be a good pro,and hey even if he never wins a show he will be successful financially cos he's a goodlooking,marketable guy with a brain,just like Chick really

The field is so competitive?  The amateur ranks are VERY weak compared to the 80s and 90s and the pros lack the freak factor of the 1990s pros.  There are many guys who turn pro today who could NEVER turn pro 10 years ago.  If you aren't good enough to compete as pro when you win the NPC, what's the fuckin' point?  Flex, Chris, Vince, Kevin and Shawn all turned pro and went on to kick ass immediately in the IFBB.

The dudes today (generally speaking) are just WEAK when compared with the 90s crop.
