Any High Intensity Trainers?
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:21:55 PM »
Just wondering if there are any other HITTers on the board who might want to discuss their training methods.  It seems most people here train conventionally..just wondering if I was the only one who trains with High Intensity-type training.  I've found it works best for me.

I adhere to these general guidelines

Reps are very strict w/ an explosive but smooth positive, peak contraction for a second, and a slooow negative.

Example set: I'll train to positive failure then have my partner assist me with a couple forced reps then I Rest-Pause for approximately twenty seconds and again go to failure with assisted forced reps then 1-3 negatives holding the bar as long as I can (by then you're absolutely fried.)  This is just an example, I'll go by instinct and maybe instead do a drop-set, partials, etc.

Depending on the bodypart, I usually choose 4-5 exercises and do only one, on occasion two sets per bodypart. I make sure every exercise I choose hits the muscle at all possible angles to induce optimal development.

Any body do anything like this?  If not do you do any other sort of unconventional training? please elaborate..thanks

hey man i did about 3 or 4 months of straight HIT a little while back.

it was awesome, but it had some adverse effects. I am not gonna say I got smaller, but i definitely got weaker when returning to regular training with conventional reps and sets. My squats, deadlifts, and bench all went down drastically, and I had to work hard to build them back up. Maybe my experience was unique, but my training partner who joined me on this HIT experiment had the same problems of getting weaker.

All in all HIT has its advantages, and despite getting weaker, I still enjoy doing it maybe once or twice out of the year for a few weeks.

Have you ever tried regular training to switch things up? Do you notice any difference in your strength?

my training is similar but diffrent
I.E. Markus Ruhl

one easy feel set, one heavy balls out set, and finally a lesser weight final pump finishing set

similar to H.I.T. but not as technique oriented, trying to move weight,  stimulation of all the fibers

I've tried periodically switching to more conventional training here and there, maybe 2-3 times this past year and based on those experiences I doubt I'll do it again.  I just can't shake the feeling that I'm wasting time and valuable energy on submaximal sets when I can be busting my ass all-out for 1-2 sets.

I feel as far as bodybuilding goes, it's more of a sprint than a marathon that produces maximal results (at least for me).  It's like this- if you look at a sprinters leg development vs. a long-distance runner, who has better quad/ham/calf development?

As far as losing strength, I've kept a detailed log book of everything I do in the gym for the past 2-3 years and honestly the only time my muscular size/lifts became stagnant was during volume training.  I volume trained for the first 2-3 years I started lifting weights and made minimal improvement compared to HIT training.  I just don't respond as well to volume training, but every body is different.  What works for you might not work for me and vice versa.

interesting! good for you though man, if it works stick with it. I will admit I had some awesome workouts when doing HIT. I wish I didn't get weaker otherwise I may still be doing it regularly. I will probably start a few weeks of HIT training within the next month.

I do high intensity for awhile now. Sprint for warm up and cool down. High reps. Legs every day, with leg extensions every day, squats + dead lifts every 2nd day, lunges every 2nd day.

I would suggest your experiance was not unique - just ask your training partner.  :D

Maybe his training partner also had an unique experience.
