What belt are you? Have long have you been training BJJ?
i started out doing judo after i left school and didnt wrestle anymore, i never was a great wrestler and never even came close to making it to a state or regional match or anything close. i wrestled in high school and i lost more matches then i won, lol. some years after that i took up judo and worked up to a green belt in competition, then i started to get really interested in the ground game after watching royce and all the other awesome bjj guys. judo training did teach us the ground techniques but it was only about 25 minutes of it compared to the other hour and 35 minutes of practicing throws, so i left that school and joined a shootfighting school in north jersey where i was living, back in the early 90,s they didnt have bjj schools on every corner like they do know, lol. the shootfighting school was very practical cause it was 10 minutes from my home and it was like 75$ a month for unlimited training 24/7, that was affordable and i didnt even have to really spend much in gas at all. these days your lucky to find a decent school to train at 2 days a week at i hour a class for that money, the shootfighting school was great cause we had a renzo bjj brown belt guy come down 3 times a week to teach us bjj, we had a older man from thialand teaching us thia boxing a few days a week also as well as some all american wrestlers and 2 guys that had some pro boxing matches under thier belts. on top of that we had a legit guy who taught bruce lee,s jkd style and a kenpo karate guy and the head instructor, ufc ref dan mirigliotta taught escrima(stick fighting) also for those wanting to learn some of the phillipine arts. it was a great place to train cause you werent limited to just bjj or boxing for instance, you could walk in the school and it was a huge place, it was a giant cookie warehouse before it became the shootfighting school, youd see guys in one corner going over wrestling takedowns, in the other corner of the mats you had guys practicing thia fighting, the other corner guys going over bjj techniques and rolling, we also had a regulation size pride ring in the back of the gym where we would train in to get the feel of actually being in a real ring compared to being on the mats on the floor. dan gave afew of us the keys and we would hang out in the gym till 1 or 2 in the morning sometime. unfortunatly the gym closed down cause dans long hours at his job all day and then coming to teach at night was kicking his ass after 10 years, also his little boys where growing up and wanted to spend time with thier dad,dan was working 10 hr days then coming to the school to teach for another 2 hours and then he lived more then an hour away from the gym on top of that. dan tried hiring a guy to run the school for him so he could be home afew nights aweek with his family but the guy wasnt reliable and he finally closed down, that sucked for me cause that was my second home. i ended up going to renzo,s in ny cause my buddy who i worked security with in a queens nightclub brought me with him one day to train and i was hooked, i mean you had rolles gracie jr there, igor gracie, renzo was there every night which was cool, you had abu dhabi guys there like jamal paterson, alot of grapplers quest and naga champions also as well as a bunch of mma guys that where making names for themselves. the level of talent was like nothing ive ever experianced, and mostly everyone there was laid back and cool, renzo wouldnt tolerate no bullshit bullying by the more experianced guys, if renzo sees you hurting one of his newer students who are not experianced youll get called out by renzo himself to roll alittle, lol, renzo would give the bully a taste of his own medicine and then tell him straight up, you do that again to my newer guys your gone, that usually did the trick. i got my blue belt from renzo after 16 or 17 months traing there twice a week, i couldnt afford to go any more days cause 2 days was costing me 225 dollars a month after i added the train cost on which was 85 dollars extra a month. i moved down south alittle while ago and im still searching for the right school to train at. if you read all that thank you, once i get typing sometimes i just cant stop
