at the time dorian was THE back in bb.

ronnie had just won his first O. people were writing him off as a one time Mr. O at the time.

years later, not only did Ronnie's back improve over his 1998 appearance, but its quite clear that Ronnie's back was much better than dorians.

hence with the proper perspective (ie both men's careers essentially over) Ronnie wins the poll easily.

I have always thought Dorian easily had a superior lat spread while the Olympia-winning Ronnie could have a more appealing rear-biceps pose (at least, before he got hurt and/or too heavy, like in 2004 and on). Picking between them for "best back" is next to impossible though, little as it means*, I'd probably take Dorian by a slight margin.

*These polls y'all talk about don't mean anything. Most of the little boys voting in these things were probably pre-pubescent when Dorian was winning. Of COURSE they'll favor Ronnie; that's only natural, especially after Ronnie's showing in 2003.

It doesn't matter NO matter how much weight Ronnie puts on he can never lengthen his muscles , his lats will never be as low as Dorians neither will his traps and teres and infraspinatus , etc , so when you post your fan-boy comparisons you might want to take that into consideration lol then again noting you post is reality based , it's only in these fantasy comparisons that Ronnie beats Dorian because in reality he couldn't get the job done

He never came close to that? You're right he was way to complete to come close to that mess lol what happens when the judges ask for one foot placed back to flex the calf? nothing happens when Ronnie does this , Ronnie has a very good rear latspread , Dorian's is better , more complete , less flaws , better balance & proportion , better density & dryness , better sweep of the lats , lower lats , it's simply better everywhere

I do think Dorian actually has a better back but I gotta advise you(for what it's worth lol) not to overuse those infamous b&w pics... The lightning used is almost too beneficial and does not seem to accurately recreate how he actually looked. If you look at any other photos of him ever he has never been able to duplicate it which makes me believe that it was basically some lucky shots with awesome lightning.

exactly. they were very well done controlled shots from a professional photographer with proper lighting to produce the desired shadows, contrast etc.

when dorian was onstage, he got owned quite a bit:

lucky shots? both of those are different years , lighting was nothing special confirmed by Kevin Horton the photographer when posed with the same question he balked at the idea he wouldn't look as impressive in color or in person , and he was to duplicate that?

these are from 1992 NO lucky lighting or anything special just gym shots

Well I see your point and those shots are impressive (very impressive!) as well but come on, you can even see his damn bacne in detail here, the lightning was very beneficial.
