Any way that you could not seek a second, third, fourth opinion, until you get a doc who isn't a douche?

correct there is only 1 attachment at the elbow, and that is the attachment that was torn in the video and it sucks, i tore both bi's in the same year and it sucked

Thats horrible man...but if you had a good surgeon and good rehab, the attachment may be stronger than before.  Often, people get distal tendonosis from wear and tear and the tendon weakens.  When they repair a torn distal bicep (or tricep or any tendon), they should shave off the end to expose healthy tendon before fixating it to the bone (which is also 'cleaned up' with a burr)

Dballn, if your primary doc wouldn't give you a referral you need to switch docs.  Its not his job to decide if the surgery is or is not in your best interest.  His job is to discuss your options and give you an opinion.  True they often don't repair proximal bicep tears but if I had one that affected the strength and appearance, I'd want it repaired.  After being torn for several years, it may be a very difficult surgery with few surgeons wanting to intervene, but if you go to a big center, they may be able to use a graft.  Probably would be a long recovery though...maybe longer than the typical 6 months and the quality of repair depends on the quality of the tendon you have left (and skill of the surgeon).  You'd have to see a revision upper extremity specialist.

that won't stop you tearing your bicep idiot.

you must use both hands hook grip, underhand grip = disasterous.

I f'n hated straps and never used them.  Then I tore my distal bicep.  So, now I use an overhand grip for deads and shrugs and if its over 315, I use straps.  Fortunately, I had my bicep repaired and its fantastic.  I may have lost a tiny bit of strength but its insignificant (like loosing 1 rep on a heavy set of dumbell curls).

I meant to include that. Don't use underhand grip.

Dorian used underhand grip when he did bent over rows. I wonder why his bicep never tore; it must be luck.

I pretty much gave up on it since I have no plans to compete anymore.  When this originally occurred all of doctors that I spoke with wouldn't agree to it.  Living in Gainesville (back then) they only wanted to operate on you if you were a Gator football player or Jags player.

F'n $hitheads.

It's been a couple years since and the end of the tendon is probably healed too much for surgery.  It sucks cause I can always feel it when I'm curling.  If I push it too hard...the bruising starts.
Where did you train in Gville?  I was at Gainesville gym Freshman year, then switched over to the gym on campus.

I love reverse grips, but I'm scared to tear anything so I've been using straps even with light weight.  I'm hoping it'll make it a little safer.

Yeah, using a grip that have your "hand palm" away from you puts too much stress on the bicep, and that's not beacuse he's "juicing"

I would have contacted an attorney if my doctor didn't refer me to an orthopedic surgeon.  How can a doctor deny you a fully functional arm if there is a repair available?  I had a complete bicep rupture like the guy deadlifting.  The surgeon said you only have a two week window before the chances of success diminishes greatly for a repair.  He said one of his patients waited for months and the only thing he could do was to graft a tendon from a cadaver to his patient.

I got the same thing in the emergency room.  The doctor said you still have one good arm.  Another doctor heard that and said this man is a weight lifter and he also needs it for his occupation.  I fought the insurance company and doctors but I had my operation in 4 days by a surgeon who specializes in only arm operations.  Now it's 99% except for a neat 4 inch scar.

Don't use the ego form on rows and your biceps are less likely to be torn. Keep your back near parallel to the floor and no jerking but steady rowing.

Most muscle tears are endured by people on gear.  It's a matter of getting too strong, too quick.
I won't disagree with you on technique though.

My doctor wouldn't make the referral to the ortho.  I met with the ortho on my own for a consult, they wouldn't recommend surgery.   However when I herniated my L5-S1, every doctor I went to said surgery.  Perhaps theres more money in back surgery.

Regardless I have no ambitions to compete anymore but it sucks having it in the back of my mind that I could completely snap it.  For anyone who's never snapped a tendon it sound like snapping a carrot.

Your such a douche man. I tore my bicep and had been clean for over a year prior to tearing it. I was dieted down, overtrained and went to heavy. But I guess it was that last 6 week cycle of halodrol that was the nail in the coffin that I did 14 months before then. Just like all your gains now have been enhanced from the one cycle you did of M1T, huh Crotch ::)

I read a science article on Mescape about distal bicep tears and they were not more prevalent in steroid users, unlike pec tears. I know several people who've torn their biceps and they're not even weight trainers.
