Bertil had a freaky upper body, but narrow clavicles and straight up and down legs. His thighs were pretty lackluster, especially next to Samir's crazy-deep separation in his legs. Bertil could have been second for sure, but he lacked the hardness and the overall balance of Samir. Bannout deserved it in '83.

wasnt the winner in 83, but 5th was unfair. Those judges eventually drove him to kill.

Used to enjoy his column in the british edition of Flex.

This is most of the IFBB correct. I agree the Penile system of Pro bodybuilding is very unjust. ;D

Samir Bannout won the '83 Olympia fair and square. 2nd place should have gone to Haney. 3rd to Fox.

Judges DROVE him to come in at a MERE 215 pounds at the 1987 Mr. Olympia and was a SHADOW of his former glory (1982-1983)....

Was born in the wrong era.

I would have had no problems with Bertil winning it all in 1983.  Fifth place was ridiculous.  Second place at worst I would say.  I have no major qualms with Samir winning it that year since he had superior conditioning and his back poses were arguably better.  I could have tolerated Lee Haney beating him, although I would have disagreed with it [as I disagreed with Lee Labrada beating Mike Christian in 1987].  Fifth place was an injustice in my opinion though.
