I just don't see the sport in this, at all. Whoopdy-fucking-do if you can kill a large defenseless animal with a weapon. At least she fed some villagers, however, so the animals night of pain and suffering wasn't totally in vain.

Have you seen the way tourists hunt lions? It is the sickest thing I can imagine - rich Americans and Europeans "hunt" lions (that have been bred in captivity) in a 20,000 square foot enclosure so the lions can't escape. Real fucking macho

thing is...she would have done the deed regardless of whether if there were poor villagers or not....

you think for a mili second she did it out of the goodness of her heart to feed the poor??

I don't think she did it out of the goodness of her heart at all. IMO her heart is lacking in the goodness department. There is no goodness in leaving an animal to suffer and die overnight because of a stupid and pointless bet.

exactly, if it were for the poor people they would have killed the animal themselves, i can understand people hunt to feed their children but this is on the purpose of stupid "entertainment".

Nothing is wrong with it. Fodd in their bellies and cash in hand, but something is wrong with Proving some man wrong, she would have never done it if there was not a bet. There are tons of sick people, out there I mean would it have been better if she took a bet to screw Zebra or a Cape Buffalo, and then shoot it and gave the meat to villagers?

To me the end does not justify the means. And when we say managed, just what are talking about? It takes two yrs for the gestation of a elephant baby...And they don't reproduce like humans or rabbits. What is their population like? Yes they are big as hell and cause damage.

Man, I sooo wish that Dinosaurs were still here in significant numbers, to just cull our population...

imagine walking down the street and seeing a Raptor run up and kill and eat person, who obviously is too obese to run away. you know our numbers need to be kept in check too.

Lol..."to keep their numbers in check." Dude, the numbers of endangered species is continually increasing due to habitat loss from increasing human populations. Awesome animals such as lions, tigers, jaguars, wolves etc., are either threatened or endangered because of habitat destruction due to humans.

I am not sure the cicrumstances under which this elephant was essentially tortured can be justified as a means of population control.

Is it because I have a realistic view of the world and understand that the survival of a species is dependant upon its economic worth and you can't handle this simple truth? Nothing wrong with killing an animal for its food, skin, bones, etc. It's the circle of life, nature, etc. What is wrong, is to kill an animal simply because you enjoy killing it. Even if you end up eating it, or if you're controlling the numbers, or whatever. If you're killing an animal for personal enjoyment, you're fucked up and karma will get you...be sure of that.

An American woman has slaughtered an elephant with a bow and arrow... to win a bet.

The Texas-born hunter killed the elephant with a single shot

Teressa Groenewald-Hagerman was so proud, she posted pictures on the internet showing her beaming beside her kill in Zimbabwe.

The 39-year-old huntress said she crept into a herd of 37 elephants, knelt down, and shot the grand creature from just 12 yards.

It staggered 500 yards before it collapsed, then she left it to die overnight.

Ms Groenewald-Hagerman is the first woman known to have killed an elephant with a bow and arrow.

The Kansas-born woman slaughtered the animal to win a bet with a male friend who said she would be unable to pull the heavy bow required.

For eight months she worked out for four hours a day so she could pull a £450 PSE X Force bow.

The lethal weapon has a 'draw weight' of 90lb - more than twice the amount pulled by female olympic archers.

Teressa Groenewald-Hagerman

On the hunting website Hunts of a Lifetime Ms Groenewald-Hagerman wrote: "A man by the name of Larry, who is a videographer for Orion Multi Media, bet me I couldn't shoot a buffalo or elephant with a bow.

"He indicated only one or two women had completed the buffalo with a bow and no woman had ever taken an elephant with a bow. Of course, I couldn't turn down the challenge."

The blonde has received praise from other hunters in online posts.

One blogger on texasbowhunter.com described her as: "Stunning looking, and a (sic) avid hunter.

"Her shot was made at 12 yards and the Bull traveled (sic) 500 yards before going down. 500 African Villagers were fed with the meat from the Bull. (sic)", Africanbowhunter said.

Another called BO-N-ARO wrote: "12 yards!!! I bet they had a great blood trail because of the low entry!! She had to have been shooting UP! That has to be one of the best examples of setting a goal and working hard to achieve it!"

The last person known to have killed an elephant with a bow was a man called Howard Hill, 60 years ago. It has rarely been attempted since.

Hunting elephants for sport is not illegal in some parts of Africa and many tour companies allow tourists to join organised hunting trips.

First of all Elephants aren't ' defenseless ' groups of Lions runs from a single elephant for a reason . and I'm impressed she killed one with a bow great shot.
