$4 gallon gasoline, was minimal, ...I'm sure the $5 gallon diesel had more of an effect than the price of gas.
Ya, consumers were squeezed at the pump, ...but they still paid it. That's not what killed the economy.

It was all the worthless equities sold as supposedly solid investments the world over that screwed it.
Lack of liquidity in the markets stalls any economy. Just because prices are higher doesn't mean people stop buying, ...especially on non-discretionary expenditures like fuel. It simply means they divert a portion of their budget that otherwise would have been spent elsewhere. Yes, it has an impact... less dining out, ...less entertainment, ...less expensive items elsewhere, ...but the real problems occured with the massive defaults and overleveraging of banks, and slowdown of credit, and pricing adjustments in the housing sectors. The economy was run on credit, and once the cash flow slowed down and the credit dried up, ...things went south very quickly. $4 a gallon gasoline is an easy scapegoat, but it was a mere drop in the bucket, compared to the real culprit(s)

(insert appropriate Bush bashing here)   :P
fucking clueless....

$4 a gallon gas is a pipe dream that you'll be wishing for once all is said and done!

It wasn't $4 a gallon gas that stopped the economy, ...it was the economy stopping $4 gallon gas.
It was the Wall Street house of cards that came crashing down that stemmed the demand for fuel,
triggering the short sales needed to cover losses. Look to Wall street and their 3 card monty players.
Gas needs to go up even further, ...and it will. It was a difficult adjustment, for some, but they've become used to it. It's going to go up further, ...and people will get used to that, ...and it will continue to go up incrementally, ...and people will adjust incrementally. bUt make no mistake, ...it's going up.  8)
incrementally LOL... wow, really clueless..

$4.00 a gallon gas stopped things dead in its tracks on the consumer side of things.

I know a few people with boats who did not even unwrap them this year and last year due to the cost of gas.  Think of who that effects.  Marinas, mechanics, gas docks, etc.  That is just one small thing that $4 a gallon gas destroyed.
