my friend is dead - why am I still alive?
« on: May 18, 2009, 10:33:12 AM »

In true GetBig fashion, an old friend of mine crashed his bike and was killed instantly Saturday night.

He leaves behind a young son and daughter.

He was a sociology professor with several publications to his credit and had devoted his life to his family and to helping to improve the family relationships of others through teaching, counseling, his writings, and oral presentations to various groups.

Meanwhile, I'm a selfish fuck who only lives to entertain.  I'm not doing anything to improve my community and while I have started several books, I haven't completed or published a thing.

I'm not asking to be dead, but if God really exists, why is this young man gone while someone like me gets to continue on?

37 is way too young.

RIP Jay

I can't help but think he'd still be alive today if only he'd been driving a car instead of a motorcycle.

I know we're not supposed to live our lives that way, but aren't we really?  I mean, as men, don't we have to take fewer risks when we've got kids to raise?

Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong...maybe my anger is clouding my compassion...maybe my own guilt and shame are the cause for my anger...and maybe that anger is really meant for me.  :-[

I cannot undo 20 years of doing nothing with my life, though.

Mate, everyone asks themselves if only..xxx. Hell today if I hadn't gone on that fucking car seat leg press I wouldn't have hurt my back. Just gotta keep on living. We're all heading for the same destination and your friend is already there, it's usually a bumpy ride.

RIP, sorry to hear that Tre.

Who knows why things happen, I certainly don't.  I sold my motorcycle a couple yrs ago because I felt the risks of getting into an accident (often the fault of a driver that doesn't see the biker, which you can't control) outweighed the pleasure of riding.

Tre? You're just looking for order and logic in life, and at a time like this, that's what people do. Life is predominantly full of random events and stuff, tho. Go and see his widow(?) and have a chat with the two kids and let them know that you'll be there if they need something or someone. And then thank your lucky stars and really appreciate what you've got and enjoy your life!  :)

Does that title come with a crown or a realm? Or at least a really cool, jeweled title belt?    :)

I'm sorry to hear of your loss Tre.  :-\

If you truly feel "why him and why not you" for the reasons you stated above, then maybe it's time you changed some things in your life so you never have to feel this way again.  Don't take life for granted.  We aren't here forever and most of us never know when our numbers up.

No regalia for thee, my liege, for thy realm is one of wisdom and that wisdom bespeaketh regality far more than the embellishments of false kings.

You know, there's a very sensitive balance in the universe that keeps order constant.

While you might think that your existence is futile and that you're only some random black guy, rejected by his own race for appearing to be gay and obsessed with snapping pictures of white women that appear to be manlier than you are, I'm here to tell you that you have way more purpose than you can imagine in this world.

Sure, your friend was a professor of Sociology who contributed his opinions to many by way of a podium or within the ravaged trees composing books, but you my friend is what I would call a Doctor of Sociology.

Do you think it is easy to be part of Getbig?

Do you for one moment think that what we do here is anything but crucial for the evolution of mankind?

You live to entertain....  Guess what, by entertaining you are essentially giving back more to mankind than what your friend did.  Whereas he studied mankind, you take part in the everyday essentials of mankind.  While he might have written books, if you were to gather up all of your posts on getbig and somehow organize them into something meaningful, you might have a bestseller that can potentially make good money somewhere obscure like in the Philippines.  While he had a podium, undoubtedly found within the four walls of a classroom, you, in turn, have Getbig as your podium and the world is your stage.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that while dying young is never good, don't ever try to question divine intervention in matters of life and death that might make the divine blink your way and realize that your candy ass should have probably been smoked as well...

Tonight, watch a good porno by Francois Sagat, masturbate and realize when cuming that you're very lucky to be alive and able to jerk off to sweaty, muscular men for a living..

You can't ask stupid questions like that, that's the way things go. Even 37 is no implicitness (a cousin of mine died at 20 in a car crash with some drunken assshole).

Everyday there are young children who are to blame for nothing dying of cancer, starve or getting raped, but you don't care and don't give a shit about it because it's not in your immediate surrounding and not in your field of view. When a more known person dies at 37 suddenly the world is a shithole and soooooo unfair. :P
