This is why the Republican Party will continue to fail...

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/05/25/cnn-poll-powell-vs-cheney-and-limbaugh/

The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, released Monday, suggests that 70 percent have a favorable opinion of Powell, who was Secretary of State during President George W. Bush's first term, and who served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Persian Gulf War.

Only 30 percent of those polled have a favorable view of Limbaugh, the popular conservative radio talk show host, with 53 percent saying they hold an unfavorable opinion.

In poll numbers released Thursday, 37 percent say they have a favorable opinion of Dick Cheney, with 55 percent indicating they hold an unfavorable view of the former vice president.

Among Republicans, it's a different story. The poll suggests that 66 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of Cheney, 64 percent give Powell a thumbs up, and 62 view Limbaugh in a favorable way.

Seems to me Americans identify with Powell more than Rush and Cheney.  So why oh why does the Republican party continue to ostracize Powell and mollycoddle Rush and Cheney?

Abandon every hope...

Cuz the "base"  of the Republican party doesn't like black people? :D

Seriously though, it's because the Neo-Conservative base isn't always in tune with the rest of America.

That base is what? About 30 percent? Which is pretty much the 30 percent who like Limbaugh or Cheney.

Thats the dumbest poll Ive ever seen and it means nothing.Rush has had the same approval numbers for years.Yet,Bush got re-elected.How was that possible?Rush is a polarizing figure. He SHOULD have approval numbers like that.

Now,people approve of Powell because THEY DONT KNOW WHAT HE BELIEVES ON ANY ISSUE!!!Whats his view of immigration, partial birth abortion, tax cuts, the Obama economic plan etc.Its easy to have high approval ratings when no one knows what you stand for.So that poll is useless.BY the way Cheney had higher approval ratings at the same point in his term that Biden has in his and thats with the media sucking Obamas dick everyday.

The republicans will win back power if they do two main things:
1. Focus the message on lowering spending, lowering taxes and trimming the budget/deficit
2. Be more inclusive.  The base must be tolerant.  It is important to see people like Michael Steele and others who are not white males.

Economic philosophy needs to be color blind.  Many people do not like paying lots of taxes and do not like a strong central government (which our constitution tried to prevent).

Agree 100%.I also think the lowering taxes message will draw latinos who are very hard workers. They need to convince them that we want you to KEEP your money and not give it to those that dont work.Thats a winning message.

I think the problem is that a lot of people avoid paying taxes, particularly self-employed trade workers (ie landscapers, plumbers, carpendars, electricians, roofers, etc).  Actually, all sorts of people avoid paying their full taxes.  If all people paid taxes, I'll bet there would be more support for lowering taxes and forcing the gov to lower its spending.  Thats why a national sales tax should be considered.

If you had to choose between a VERY Social Liberal Democrat who is adamant about a National Sales Tax like Mike Gravel or Ronald Reagan, whom would you vote for?

Mike Gravel is a midget compared to Reagan. You cant take an all time great and dimish him by comparing him to Gravel. Now,if you ask me if Id vote for Gravel over ,say a Mike Hukabee,it would be a toss up.Id have to examine both more but Im not a religious right wing fan.

If the economy does not catch fire by years end, all the republicans will have to do is sit back and wait to retake the majority. Obama was elected for 2 reasons and only one of them means squat to the country at large.

So far Obama has done EXACTLY the opposite of what he promised in the camapaign with respect to Iraq, Guantanamo etc. In addition, his all talk and no action foreign policy has made him look at times inexperienced and at others foolish.

If Obama's redistribution of wealth and the democratics strategy to spend us into the stone age/ take government control of the private sector does not reap significant returns- ie the unemployment rate shrinks dramatically, it wont matter if Barry walks on water while juggling chainsaws with his eyes closed, or how many Manchurian Candidate speeches he gives, he will be out of Pennsylvania Avenue on his ass after one term.

All this talk of inclusivity is nonsense. McCain, the weakest candidate in the election, still had 40something percent of the countries popular vote and this was after 2 terms of GW Bush. Believe me, the American people will run back to the right if Barry, Nancy and the rest dont fix the economy. Inclusivity is just code for letting in the undesirables of the democratic base run amok in the republican party and get their asses kissed. Thanks, but no thanks. I'd rather have the productive members of society in my corner- quality over quantity.

Americans ( the ones who vote, work for a living and make this country what it is today) only care about results anyway.

BTW- Does anyone else find it completely stupid to compare Rush to Powell in a national poll of non republicans in order to show that more Americans identify with Powell? LOL

This just in, among non- democrats Bill O'Reilly has a higher approval rating than Clay Aiken. This demonsates irrefutably that more Americans identify with O'Reilly. Yet for some strange reason liberals continue to Bash O'Reilly and support Clay Aiken  ::) Hmmmmmmm....

whorewell,

you're right - but - the repubs have yet to offer an alternative, or a better option.

if obama fails, that's half of the equation.  But they need to do their part, and replace the repub image of "bush/cheney do what they want, don't care what you think, and Rush limbaugh defends it".

The image needs to be something like "Repubs are financially responsible, they care about national defense, and they do give a shit what you think".

but even higher within the party, 62% favorable rating among republicans.  OMG...  That is seriously disastrous.

I dunno... I am pretyt neutral about Rush.  I see him as a businessman who learned how to exploit the emotional, reactive religious zealouts known as far-right republicans.

he steals 3 hours of their day, every day, by whining about the things they hate, demonizing a guy (obama) trying to replace the guy who started 2 wars and bankrupted us, and telling them that they're right.

He gives this third of america the words "You're right, and everyone else is wrong".  And since a lot of them tune in, he makes a lot of money.

honestly, I think he could just as easily be on lib radio if that's where the $ is.  However, libs spend their evenings having sex, while neocons watch the Factor and masturbate during the Neutrogena commercials.

why can't america be a guy?

I mean, aren't we the most borrow-happy, misinformed, immature, selfish, junk food eating, "kicking-ass-first-and-investigating-later", country in the world?

aren't those male qualities, for the most part?   :D

That's fine by me. He can act as the pied piper for America drawing all the neo-cons to his side.
While they're there ranting, raving, belly-aching... and engaging in as much bathroom stall sex as they want,
...the moderate conservatives will be busy working with the dems, ...and together in a bi-partisan way, can go about fixing the mess the neo-cons created.  :)

Im not so sure about that. All the Democrats did in 2006 was sit back and bitch, and they still won (though not by much in most of the races that they won). They were in on all that big spending. That's why electing them in 2006 was such a foolish thing to do, even though the Republicans did screw up.

When you have Mark Foley, the Republican co-chair of the congressional committee on missing & exploited children, revealed to be a gay pedophile trying to orchestrate a liason with a teenage congressional page... with senior members of the GOP looking the other way... Dems don't have to do a darn thing but sit back and count their votes.  :D

Whatever happened to him anyway... Does anyone know if he eventually checked out of rehab?

If I remember correctly the messages he sent were albiet suggestive but still also somewhat ambiguous. The Democrats have always and will always have thier scandals. Atleast Republicans hold themselves up to higher standards and punish themselves when they dont rise to those standards, while Democrats dont do a dam thing to the people who orchestrate thier scandals. People voted thier hearts and not thier heads. Nothing will happen to Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, who did something far more dangerous to the security of the country by playing politics with the CIA.

Ambiguous?

What's your idea of ambiguous?

There's nothing ambiguous about:
  • "How big is your penis?"
  • "Do I make you horny?"
  • "Are you horny right now?"
  • "Tell me how you masturbate?"
  • etc., etc., etc., ...

I'm surprised he didn't show up on "To Catch A Predator" {lol}

So,he does the EXACT same things that Olberman and Madow do,EXCEPT he is good at it at and people actually listen to him.I heard that little girl and that little dyke cry, whine and bitch about Bush everyday for years [and they are still at it every night]you never raised an eyebrow.

Now we have a marxist in the white house ,who is purposely destroying the country, and the right should say nothing. Why?Because he is a minority?
