I think Obama's tone was excellent and I think it is better to try to find common ground and show general respect when we can. I still think he is a bit cross the line of respecting islam vs. admiration of islam, which still bothers me.

Did you catch this part though....more money (from CNN commentary):

He talked about his plan "to invest $1.5 billion each year over the next five years to partner with Pakistanis to build schools and hospitals, roads and businesses" to help the countless number of internally displaced persons caught in the fighting in Pakistan. Similarly, for Afghanistan, he outlined that we will be "providing more than $2.8 billion to help Afghans develop their economy and deliver services that people depend upon."

Thats noble but no one in this administration seems to respect the fact that we have no money and are in a recession.

I did not understand his speech one bit. Since when is "Islam" a nation or country to be dealt with in such a way.

I am speaking of the general tone of the speech. I have not heard the whole thing for content. Obama is an appeaser and someone who can identify/fit in with different crowds. Sort of a something for everyone kind of person (except most of his recent policy decisions which have been decidedly left wing).

Thing is...I'm with tu in that we should back away some with our direct intervention unless absolutely necessary, including crazy amounts of financial support. I support strong diplomacy but don't see the need for us to give billions of dollars in support to any middle eastern nation or sending so many troops to fight unless there is some sort of genocide or we are at war with the country.

If Saudi Arabia is participating (directly or indirectly) in helping any of these silly folks, determined to destroy Israel, then the folks there are on the hook, too.

The point, which you apparently missed, is that Obama can't be diplomatic with ANYONE, when they're hell-bent on destroying another nation (be it Israel or America).

So I have learned from this thread that when I go to a completely different country I should bring the customs of some other country that have no relations to the place or the situation.

Then I have learned that a country that supply food,electricity,medicine,jobs and more to people who send terrorists to kill it's civilian population are actually committing genocide.

I'm glad to see you take such a position. The ability to empathize with those with whom you are in conflict is the first step to ending that conflict. Just substitue Saudi Arabia for USA, and Israel for Palestine, and you echo the sentiments of many in the Middle East, as well as illustrate an understanding of much of the animosity and dislike many in the middle east feel towards US foreign policy.
