My gym has almost nothing, so what can be done to add weight? ???

do power clean, barbell row, hi pulls and shrugs (bill Star "increase your deadlift without deadlifting).

Switch to heavy barbell rows and your back will grow way more than doing the deadlifts with the weight you have in the gym.  Go slow and concentrate on the feel and the weight will "feel" like much more...

Ask your gym if you can bring some chains in.  Very good powerlifting technique.

Back extensions. Just hold some weight plates, DB's.

I often alternate these with deads.

I think deads are great, but i would rather go and do some weighted back extensions than "lifting an old VW".

Excellent advise. Extensions are great.

Find a way to add weight!

I agree deadlifts can be dangerous but when done right I do not think there is any substitute that can match the effectiveness of them. Deadlifts are perhaps the most functional exercise and they hit so many muscles!

Just take weights from other people, bring your own plates, or go for higher reps!

Love working the chains!!  :)

If he can't afford a gym with weights, I doubt he could afford enough chains to make much of a difference. ;D
