IMO, the best that can be hoped for is a stable Iran. I'd argue that they probably can't handle democracy due to having had a tribal culture for too long. We really can't impose an American style democracy on other cultures just because it would be politically convenient.

Religion, ideology and most other isms are of man's creation.

I just doubt many of those countries have the infrastructure, economy or cultures progressive enough to handle full democracy. True, religion is a huge part of their culture and one of the reasons they're so backwards but it's not the only reason things are so fucked up over there.

Democracy will lead to greater economic gain than any other government type. Their infrastructure will change with their government, it won't be an over night success just like it wasn't elsewhere or for any government style transition.

It's the Iranians that want democracy, not me, I couldn't care less. But I do pat them on the back and admit that I'm glad that's the road their young generation would like to follow.
