how difficult is it to become a cop?
« on: June 21, 2009, 08:34:50 PM »
with all of these recent cop beating help-less citizen threads lately, I'm curious

How much training does it take?  Anyone with knowledge/experience on this?

Go to the kids store, ask for a police costume that fits your size.

Hmm, seems easy enough:

Step
1
Ask yourself if you are ready for this career. When young women and men decide on a police career, they have no idea what they are getting into. It is best to research all of the procedures, training and tests that will be performed during the recruitment process. Officers will face the realities of society, see things and undergo situations like no other.

Step
2
Examine the different types of officer you can become. You can choose from a wide variety of officer roles and some examples are sheriff, urban officers, state officers and investigative detectives. Find out which role will match your personality and be more suitable for you to become.

Step
3
Check the prerequisites of becoming a cop. Most police departments require you to be of a certain age and to have a certain amount of education/experience. Some police departments require that you have a college degree.

Step
4
Prepare for intense physical and mental tests, as well as medical exams. To be a cop, you must have high levels of health and mental capabilities. You will face stressful situations as a cop, and the department wants to know you will be able to handle these experiences.

Step
5
Train to become a cop. Police departments will require that you take a 12 to 14 week training period at the police academy. In this career training, you will learn about state laws, constitutional laws and accident investigation, to name a few.

Apparently not very.  Proof?  Mental midgets like Bob Chick and Ronnie Coleman were cops.

It can vary.  In the county I grew up in, a college degree was required to become a policeman.  In the adjacent county no degree was required.  Guess which county had a lot more trouble with rogue police and documented abuse of citizens by officers? :(

Almost any big city P.D can be a bitch, especially if your'e a white boy. Ethnicities rule these days and caucasians are now a minority group... ironic, no?

Don't forget the extensive background checks. They will call the friends you grew up with and ask if them if you ever farted in public.

Corrections could be cool because of the pay and benefits, but if your'e in Cali, you can forget it. They put a hiring freeze on most state employees.

Arnold say's that 11,000 minimum security inmates will be let loose this year due to the exorbitant cost of housing a prisoner for a year. It's somewhere around 80K for a year to support an inmate.

BTW, anyone here ever put money on someone books? Ever notice the percentage that is taken for restitution?

Unfortunately, a college degree isn't what it used to be.  Back when I went, only people who were either pretty intelligent or who were from upper-middle class or better backgrounds or both had degrees.  These days, every dipshit out there has a "college degree" from some third-tier fly-by-night "college".

EASY to become a cop.  You do a simple academy and that's it.  Pass some screenings etc..    ANY moron can be a cop.  I did an academy, was a cop, then decided to do more and become a lawyer.

Most cops are jokes.

And most lawyers are scumbags... you strike me as a prime example.

It's easy as fuck. If you can read and have a spare 3-6 months for training you pretty much fit the qualifications.
