BAGHDAD – Iraqi forces assumed formal control of Baghdad and other cities Tuesday after American troops handed over security in urban areas in a defining step toward ending the U.S. combat role in the country. A countdown clock broadcast on Iraqi TV ticked to zero as the midnight deadline passed for U.S. combat troops to finish their pullback to bases outside cities.

Good news right there, now lets get all the way out of there.

One of the motivations for us going in there in the first place was so we could have large Middle East bases to keep anyone from fucking with our oil supply.  (We had that in Saudi after 1991, but our presence there was causing too many problems politically for the royal family with the Islam-nuts, so we took our show on the road).  Why should we give that up?  Sure, get out of the cities and populated areas and let them deal with their own internal messes, I'm all for that, but our rural and desert bases we should never give up.

we're out of the cities with bases there forever.

is it morally right?  Shit, no.

Does it serve american interests, and keep our quality of life high?  yes.  Without the bases there, someone else would move in on the oil and we'd see prices spike.  So even if we feel the war was BS (which it was) we all benefit from our guys guarding that oil from our enemies getting and hoarding it.

so just because you are stronger you can build a base anywhere? is that what you are trying to say?

My fear is being so close we are just a drop of a hat away from being right back in the cities again.

when you join the military
they don't just pay for school
teach you a trade
and let you see the world
sometimes
you get killed

you should respect those who gave their lives for us
instead of hiding in the comfortable esconces of the US
and whining like a daddy's whittle  girl

You're just flailing wildly now.

You think the war is worth dead American kids or not?  Simple question.

Edit: Are you Mike Dusa?

Simple answer
I don't like to see anyone die
I back my country
regardless of who sits in office
I live here
enjoy its benefits
and do not 'cherry-pick'
ever

Nothing is more American than questioning the decisions of those in charge.  Blind obedience is for commies.  You a commie, boy?

PS- Are you Mike Dusa?
