Sounds like he was trying to mold his style after the late great Vince the iron guru Gironda. All assholes and pricks, trying to act tough, eccentric, and unaprochable. We would have got along famously 8)

A great man. A genius. Someone not to f*ck with. His kind are a dying breed in this wimpified culture.

He was far from poor and made a fortune off Nautilus.

I was gonna say the same thing.  He was on the Forbes 400 for a while and was spending very little money in his older years.  I don't have access to his bank account, but I'm relatively sure he wasn't poor when he died. Plus, his son is the founder and president of Hammer Strength-I doubt he would have let his old man fall into poverty and destitution.
Imo, AJ pretty clearly fell victim to egoism, but given his background I have a hard time believing most people wouldn't be the same way.  Those vids where he's ripping into people are not common in those with supreme confidence, so I'm assuming he felt threatened in some way and his inflated ego was a way of dealing with it.  Still doesn't take away from the fact that he was one of the most successful men to ever live.  His life story reads like some kind of fantasy novel.

Just his compound in Florida alone would qualify him as very well off.

It was either the world's biggest or the nations biggest private airport.  He was flying friggin alligators and elephants in his 737 or something-anyway, huge Jet.  John Travolta bought the compound.

Really. I didn't know that. Where did you read that? AJ was one of a kind. I heard he was like hell to get along with and Casey couldn't stand him -- but respected him. I figure he was probably an a-hole in person but there was something about him I liked. You know how a lot of people say they don't give a crap about what other people think about them? Well, that's virtually always a lie. They care plenty. I think AJ was one of those guys that truly didn't care about what others thought of him. Probably because he thought most people were morons anyway. And being a self made millionaire he didn't have to care. It would be cool to be like him.

He was definitely one of a kind. That's for sure. That's for damn sure.

He may not be no goddamn pretty boy but this here face is a face of real character.

I like how he always wears the same shirt and pants no matter where he is. Whether on Letterman or out on his compound. He could have afforded the finest most expensive suits and designer clothes but he truly didn't give a rat's azz.

M-1 Carbine in aftermarket "Enforcer" configuration.

Jones lead a neat life, just a few years before he died he remarried a girl 1/2 his age and hot too. While he's pretty much known for the Nautilus machines, The Med-x line was awesome because of the micro adjustments that could be made in poundages. There was a bio about him a bit back, I'll see if i can find the name*.
