Good!  Now I don't have to worry about drafting him in FF.   :)

Not buying it for a second.....

Mason has made no secret about his disappointment in the Ravens' decision not offer him a contract extension beyond the 2009 season. But he's 35 years old now and has to understand that the Ravens are thinking ahead to the future. He needs to just man up and play out the last year of a five year contract that most receivers at age 31(in 2005) rarely get to fullfill. If anything, he should dedicate this upcoming season to his slain former teammate and friend, Steve Mcnair.

I love Mase, but he just needs to play out the final year of his contract, be a professional, and let the chips fall where they may after the season. He can still play at a high level. 34 years old last season and he still grabbed 80 balls and had a 1,000 yard season. The ultimate possession receiver....

kinda makes me think that he feels the ravens won't be a contender next season

why retire if you think your team can win a super bowl?

who will flacco throw to now?

No way he feels that way. The Ravens made it all the way to the AFC Championship game as a wildcard and there's a lot of reason to be excited about the future. Like I already said, until he files his retirement papers with the Ravens organization, my opinion is that he's trying to leverage for a new contract extension, which he won't be offered.

Not only that but he just lost one of his best friends to a tragic homicide. However, if he indeed does decide to retire, their current starting WR's would be Demetrius Williams and Mark Clayton. Ouch......

The obvious answer would be to sign Marvin Harrison as a free agent or maybe Plaxico Buress(doubt that). But Harrison looked really washed up last season and it was a no-brainer for the Colts to release him.

Obviously change of some kind will be made but it needs to happen now. Mason needs to shit or get off the pot so the Ravens can make a move. Training camp starts in a few weeks. Even with Mason in the fold, they still need to upgrade their receiving corps.

Definitely think this is a ploy to get a new deal.  Still has gas in the tank.  Ultimate possession receiver?  Good, but not the best.

5th in the NFL with 26 grabs for 355 yards and two touchdowns on 3rd down last season. Not too shabby. Every team in the NFL would love to have a teammate like Mason to go to war with.

I agree, but you said the ultimate possession receiver.  I'd take Anquan Boldin, Wes Welker, over him.  (I'd say Hines, but you would say I am biased (I am), tough blocker, great in the red zone, and gets in the heads of opposition to the point of "bountys" being placed).

Admitedly, So would I. Aquan is the total package: Speed, Strength, size, great hands and awareness. Welker is a slot receiver who rarely lines up on the outside because he plays out of the slot mostly and runs mainly underneath routes. Mason is 5'10" and an X receiver. I would take Mason over Welker on outside routes but Welker is the better all around receiver. Hines is great blocker with superior hands and football IQ.

I'll take all the luck I can get. Luck plays a large part in any NFL team's success, especially when it comes to injuries. And the Ravens had quite a few last year at key positions. They were pretty undermanned going into the AFC championship game last season and they still took the Steelers to the final bell. Just be glad and thankful that the Ravens saved the Steelers from another ass-whipping by the Titans in the playoffs.

final bell?  the ravens never led in the game and never even threatened to score a td until a bad punt from a shitty SECOND STRING punter, steeler mistakes (sweed's dropped td pass) are the only reason they didn't win by more than 9

don't act like the ravens were the only ones with injuries

steelers had 2 starting o lineman out, already mentioned the punter, running back, and don't forget hines got hurt early in the game

steelers beat the ravens 3 times, i would think there was at least a chance steelers could beat the titans...

every team has luck but the ravens had just as much luck as anybody, they overachieved last year

Yeah, final bell. I seem to recall that the Ravens were only down two points and trying to drive for a winning FG attempt before ROOKIE QB Joe Flacco threw a game ending INT for a TD. I know tons of Steelers fans that were at that game nervous as shit they were going to lose before that INT happened(you included). The Ravens had every right to be in the game until the final minute. For you to say that the Steelers should have won by more than 9 points is just plain stupid. Every game bewteen the two teams could have gone either way. They needed overtime to win the first game. A bullshit TD by Holmes that the Ravens were WINNING in the second game, and a Polamalo pick for the game winning TD in the AFC title game. But the Steelers should have won by more than 9 points, right? Sorry dude but that's a dumbshit opinion if I ever read one.

The Ravens made it real easy for you to make the Superbowl. No Colts or Titans to play while the Ravens went on the road as a #6 seed and won two playoff games.(one against the #1 seed who whipped the Steelers ass a few weeks prior to that. And let's not forget that there was no Tom Brady and the Patriots for EITHER team to worry about in the playoffs because if there was then there's a real possbility that both our teams wouldn't have made it to the conference championship game. (when's the last time either team has beaten Brady? Hmmmmmmmm)

The Steelers are the better team. No one is disagreeing with that. But the Ravens were severly banged up leading up to the title game. Suggs was playing with one arm(still got two sacks.) and the secondary was depleted with Samari Rolle's absence. Limas Sweed dropping that touchdown pass had as much to do with him being a rookie as Flacco throwing that INT to seal the loss at the end.

The Ravens will have their time in the sun, believe it. You can shit on Flacco all you want because he didn't start for the Shitsburgh Panthers in college. But the kid is going to be special and the Ravens will be a force for years to come.

i think the ravens were around their own 20 yard line when that int happened, they had a long way to go before they could get into field goal positioning, which was something they could hardly do all game

how is it stupid to say the steelers should've won by more than 9?  how often does an nfl receiver drop that wide open pass thrown to sweed?  do you remember that play or do you only remember the plays the ravens messed up?  flacco's int was nowhere near the fluke as that dropped pass

when you beat a team 3 TIME 3 TIME 3 TIME in one season you are clearly the superior team, it doesn't matter what the final scores were and your ravens had no business being in the afc title game, remember the delay of game uncalled penalty against the titans?  you got a lot of nerve whining about a legit td holmes had in the regular season game

the steelers owned the team that beat the colts, when you earn a first round bye you can only play the teams that earn a first round playoff win, yeah the road to the super bowl was easier but to put down the steelers for that is just reaching and shows pure bitterness

do you really believe kerry collins was going to lead his team to the super bowl, seriously?  you know it's different in the playoffs and like i said before if the ravens couldn't beat the steelers what makes you think the steelers couldn't beat the titans? again you are reaching

i specifically remember you saying rolle wasn't good, is he still playing for the ravens?

brady hasn't won a super bowl since 2004, the steelers have won 2 super bowls since then, stop reaching for anyway you can to discredit the steelers record 6th super bowl ::)

the ravens could be a contender but i still see the same weak receiving corp and secondary aside from ed reed

Agree to disagree.

Collins took the titans to the #1 seed. He has taken the Giants to the Superbowl in his career. I don't get why you don't think he would have been capable to take his team to the Superbowl. He was certainly good enough to beat the Steelers wasn't he? if the Ravens lose that game, the Titans are playing at home in the AFC championship game.

Why would I be bitter? Over what? The Ravens had a great season last year and the future looks great. yeah, they lost three times but it doesn't make the Steelers 'superior'. 2009 is new season and everyone will be gunning for the Steelers. It's a hell of a lot harder to defend the title than it is to win it

And nice sidestep answer to Brady and the Patriots. The Steelers have been fortunate enough not to have had to go through the Patriots in order to win their two Superbowls this decade. And they one time they did, they got owned in the AFC title game in Pittsburgh. The Patriots are the team of the decade, not the Steelers. let's be clear about that. So stop jerking off over your tired, lame '6 TIME' title mantra when Pittsburgh hadn't tasted a title for over 25 years before 2005.

You're trying to make an argument when there isn't one to begin with. I've clearly said the Steelers are the better team so what am I bitter about? You sound more defensive than I sound bitter about anything.

even the giants owner said that giants team was the worse to ever make the super bowl, collins is a journeyman qb and if the ravens were capable of beating the titans so were the steelers

you are bitter, why else would you be trying to discredit the steelers win by bringing up tom brady and the colts who choke every year in the playoffs?  beating one team 3 times in a season makes you clearly superior

people will be gunning for the ravens too, they won't sneak up on anybody like last year and your team has to play the colts and pats, steelers play inconsistent titans and dolphins

on paper the steelers are better than last year at every position, if they stay healthy i can see 14 regular season wins especially with the much easier schedule

i never said the steelers were the team of the decade, though i do recall you saying if they win this season they could make an argument, who cares that the steelers didn't beat the pats in the playoffs, epic reaching to discredit the best franchise of the super bowl era, the pats got crushed by the broncos in 05, than the steelers crushed the broncos, they couldn't qualify this past season

steelers are the team of the super bowl era THE ONLY ERA ANYBODY CARES ABOUT, there is no way to argue around that 8)

all i was originally saying was derrick mason does not make the ravens a super bowl contender, than you got defensive
