That's fine, but thats not how it went.  Clearly you hear what you want to hear.  It's been shown over and over that Crowley was not in the wrong.  Hell, Obama just invited him to the white house for a beer.  The only thing Crowley is guilty of is arresting a man who was acting belligerent and disorderly and who happened to be a man of color with powerful friends. 

Crowley was defended by several prominent African American members of Boston society.  All "Skip" had to do was show the officer his i.d and this whole situation would have been avoided.  Instead, he said things about the guys mother and started screaming like a mad man.  It's all on tape and it's going to come out. Again, this is not the case of an officer walking by and giving someone trouble for no reason.  Look at the facts and don't let YOUR bias cloud your judgement.  Crowley was responding to a 911 call to a home that had been broken into recently.  He asks the idiot resident to show his i.d and the guy gives him a bunch of shit and starts acting like a crazy person.  The same guy who was just seen by neighbors with another person breaking into the home.  I'm glad he arrested his ass.  Dope.  But when you need the cops...well, thats a different story

I don't agree with the law in this case and believe good police work involves picking battles that make sense.  We can cite the law over and over again here and even prove that Gates violated it.  But Gates acting a fool and the police taking the bait isn't worth just walking away once you find out its his home.  Further more, a video tape of him being a fool would have been more damaging in the long run with out the police reacting to it.  It would have shown the police being above his race baiting crap.

No one, not Gates, not Crowley and not the Cambridge Police Dept has to my knowledge disputed Obama's description of what occurred, or stated that Obama's understanding of the incident was inaccurate.

People can get all riled up by the Obama haters, if they want, ...or they can control their own thoughts,
and draw their own conclusions, by listening closely to Obama's response to the questions posed to him.

The cops NEVER yelled at him.They asked him to step out of the house because of the echo coming from the house.THERE IS NOTHING in the report saying the cops raised their voices at him.He was screaming at them.

Do you really believe that? That's the hardest part of that report for me to swallow.

I could understand asking him to step out of the house, so the caller who was on the sidewalk could make a positive id, confirming he was the man she witnessed entering the home. This would assure the officer that despite Gates being identified as the lawful occupant, that there still wasn't a burglar inside the home, the actual perp the caller had witnessed. This makes sense to me. That would be thorough policing. It would be quite tragic for a perp to break into Gates' home moments before Gates arrived, have the cops come see Gates id, then leave him alone in his home with a dangerous perp unbeknownst to any of them, ...so calling him out of the home for this purpose, while inconvenient, can be considered reasonable in my estimation. But Crowley's report makes no mention of this. He claims he called him out due to the accoustics? I thought they were in Gates' hallway, not the Sydney Opera House!

The one law you have when you are being questioned and that you MUST follow, is that you must identify yourself.

I believe that obligation goes both ways, ...especially for a police officer who enters the private home of a civilian uninvited. Gates fulfilled his obligation to that end. Crowley refused. He instead lured an innocent over the threshold of his property into a jurisdiction wherein he could lawfully make an arrest. It was stupid.

i am not a fan of cops - but they were right here.

you don't stand in a house (with unknown other factors) and ask a potential intruder for ID.  You don't know if he has a buddy hiding, a weapon, or if some resident of the house is gonna step outta his bedroom groggy and blindly fire a shotgun and the strangers in the living room.

You get the person outside and you identify them.

You do this for your own safety as a cop, and for the safety of the person being interviewed.  Those cops didn't know who was in what bedroom, etc.  Kids, pitbulls, whatever.  And searching the place means you leave this unknown person in the living room while you do it.

You get the person outside and identify him.  period.  This isn't something to argue - the police readily admit it's procedure and it's what they did.  if YOU were the cop, you'd want the person outside as well, to keep your ass safe from any number of unknown factors.

Police officers are stupid for doing the job they do, taking the risks they take, working the hours they work, being disliked by a large percentage of the population and still thinking they can make a difference.   

It takes a real dumbass to understand 1000+ pages of criminal code, 200 different department policies and be expected to make split second judgements, using both code and policy, based on limited and often faulty information.  Plus the fact that most everyone watching has a cell phone recording what you do waiting for you to make a mistake that they can capitalize on. 

It's easy to say cops make bad decisions when you get to read over a report of what happened.  It's a completely different ballgame when YOU'RE the one that has to make the decision in the heat of the moment.

The Police officer have to know that he isn't someone who try to impersonate the owner of the house but Gates was probably too mad and did what he did.
