Fedor signs with Strikeforce
« on: August 03, 2009, 10:15:12 AM »
I'd hate to beat a dead horse, but it appears the Fedor sweepstakes have ended.............for now:

Fedor Emelianenko has signed a multi-fight agreement that will see the world’s No. 1-ranked heavyweight compete for Strikeforce, the promotion announced Monday.

Emelianenko, who became a free agent after Affliction Entertainment canceled its Aug. 1 event two weeks ago, will make his debut on Showtime under a co-promoted Strikeforce/M-1 Global production this fall. Emelianenko was to have faced Josh Barnett at Affliction “Trilogy” on Aug. 1, but Barnett failed a pre-fight test for anabolic steroids and was refused licensure by the California State Athletic Commission.

Emelianenko, along with his promoters and management team M-1 Global, negotiated with the UFC last week, but could not come to an agreement over co-promotion.

"Strikeforce is a top fight promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world," said Emelianenko in a press release. "I am prepared to fight any of them."

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker told Sherdog.com last week that he plans to match the stoic Russian against the likes of Brett Rogers, Fabricio Werdum and the promotion’s heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem.

“I feel pretty confident that we could give him four or five opponents that would make sense for him,” Coker told Sherdog.com in an exclusive video interview.

rogers, werdum and overeem are more dangerous than brock.  way more talented fighters.  the only dude in the ufc i could see giving fedor problems is gonzaga or carwin.

personally I think the jury is still out on Rogers....

Fedor/Werdum or Overeem definetly has potential to be something good...

it is what it is I guess...

I hope this doesn't put the nail in the coffin for Strikeforce.  Fedor is the organization killer.

not sure what could be so funny...

fedors fighting for a fraction of the money while he puts money in the pocket of a promoter that for some reason he's loyal to....

fedors relationship with M-1 WAS based on loyalty....NOW it's starting to seem like he's just flat out being taken advantage of...

I just feel that the UFC shouldn't be the only company controlling everything..
And just because Fedor doesn't sign with UFC doesn't mean his not the best or his legacy is over..
And when you read some of the comments it makes you crack up on what some getbigger's are saying..

Werdum and Overeem are better than anything the UFC has to offer with the exception of maybe Brock. The contract wont last forever-- I feel that eventually Fedor will fight in the UFC or to put on a huge $$$ event, Dana will have one cross promotional fight down the road if its Brock and Fedor.

At least you cant say Fedor is going to be fighting nobodies-

Really?  You want MMA to be spread around a bunch of promotions/organizations so that we never have undisputed title holders, a bunch weight classes and conflicting rules?

And, Fedor not going to the UFC does in fact show his fear.  He'd rather get paid less and guarantee his wins, than go to the UFC where he will be truly tested.

Fedor might have been the best once, but he is not any more...unless he proves otherwise.

You call Brock the best 4-1 ???
As far as pay; Do you know for a fact what Fedor had being being offered??
There are 2 sides to every story  ::)
and M-1 management said the pay was below what he was already making...
How do you know if the Stikeforce deal aint better...
By the way Strike force has the better Heavy Weight Divison..

that's where I was hoping something like WAMMA would get established...

the one governing body that had the belts (and no promotions) for the fighters from different orgs to compete for.....

but it will never happen

exactly.  There are many more tests for him in the UFC.  Fedor is showing his fear.   This isn't to say he wouldn't win most, if not all his fights there, but still shows he's being a pussy.

Some of you guys are just anti-ufc. How has Strikeforce got the best competition?

Off another site:

Overeem that is 29-11. This is the guy that is supposed to be a test for Fedor, a guy that has lost virtually every big fight he has ever been in.

He lost to Kharitonov in K1 Heroes
He lost to Mauricio Rua X2
He lost to Arona
He lost to Nog X2
He lost to Werdum
He lost to Chuck Liddell

Every time the guy has a big fight, he pretty much loses. He has a win over Mark Hunt, who BTW is 5-6 in MMA. yea you read that correctly, 5-6.

Werdum had 4 fights in the UFC, of which he went 2-2, and probably should have went 1-3 because Gabe was winning that fight, he was very competitive. Werdum got the fuck out of there ASAP when he figured out that the guys he would have to face were all going to be game.

That leaves Rodgers who is rumored to have zero ground game and will likely meet a nasty end soon enough.

No you're right, fedor should fight cock chestnar (4-1), randy couture (16-9) or which other washed up fighter???

Overeem, rogers and werdum are good opponents.

Brock if a force and no matter you say would own most HWs.

Don Santos is shaping up nicely.

Carwin i think is still legit 13-0 with all 1st round knockouts and would own Rogers.

Mir is still top tier.

Nog might come back stronger - remember last fight he was injured and had staph.

Lets no forget Pat Barry, Cain, Cro-Cop, Randy, Kongo, Buentello.

Face it Fedor is going to be facing maybe one decent fighter and that is all. And yet UFC HW division is their weakest.

You can not be serious...Overeem can't even stay healthy long enough to fight ::)
Fedor is a disgrace. I used to respect him. Ruined his worth with this latest move.
I am sure he really doesn't care anymore

Sad to say...Mir would be a better competitor than any of those guys.

Read the boards, articles, chat rooms, etc.  The overwhelming majority of MMA fans agree that Fedor is a pussy puppet who is running from the UFC...

LOL are you people on crack?

Overeem, Werdum and Rogers are certainly on par with anyone in the UFC besides maybe Brock who has a whopping 5 fights in his life, 2 of which were an absolute joke and one which he lost.

Nogeurra is 1/10th what he was and fedor destroyed him twice. Randy is so old and beat up he's going to have to be rolled to the ring in a wheelbarrow for his next fight. Mir was and is over-rated. Buentello? Give me a fucking break.

Your only arguments are Carwin, Congo and Brock. If those 3 are better on paper than Overeem Werdum and Rogers its not by much.

Saying that Overeem lost all his big fights, dude look at that list of opponents and when he fought them; All in their prime. Who the fuck in the UFC has even lost, let alone fought that many legitimate top fighters in the world? Nogera 100 years ago and maybe Randy. Nobody else fighting heavyweight has fought 1 100th the guys Overeem has fought.
