I wont just respect one group/class/race because it is fashionable to do so. Ill give respect based on individual actions of individuals. No one group is granted this.

I think u will see more...but its something many of us have questioned. I think more (relative term) will get upgraded. It takes time for some of this crap. I think u will see an actual live MOH recipient in the next two years. There are atleast two DSC's that are being looked at. The awards system in the Army and the services in general has always been fucked up.

Well chimps..it pisses me off. These kids don't need to be doing the shit they do...its one thing to enlist for Army benefits in peace time...but when ur getting a round trip to Iraq or Afghanistan, thats another.

a good soldier is one who does what he is told without questioning it. They are trained and many could do it.

many however cant be surgeons or doctors - mnay dont have teh brains to do so.

In the UK many thick unemployed ppl join the army - which has been proven to be corrupt. Becasue its a career and a job that pays the bills.

In teh USA its admirable the pride you have in your armed forces etc But your crusades are not admirable nor just.

I have a few close friends in the British army and its a disgrace what ur country has done to a very proud institution. A monkey could not do my job...or any of the jobs in the US military. The US and UK armies are getting beaten by primitives with 30 year old guns and stones. The UK army admitted they couldnt beat the IRA. The USA got beaten in Vietnam. You cant win a war where the enemy integrate so well with teh populace.

How many more lives will it take to realise this.

I am sure that many people if trained could do a lot of the jobs in the military - it is not elite, it is not honourable and you lot are not God.

Despite the US and UKs protestations the majority of people oppose the war.

If you want to be a soldier by all means be one - your body your life your choice etc. You know the consequences etc.

But dont harp on about getting shot, your buddy getting killed or lack of compensation. It was your own conscious decision to do so.

I'm getting sick and tired of the overuse of the word "HERO".  The media is fucking obsessed with this word ever since 9/11.  Especially how they label these 19 year old hispanic or black high school drop outs that join the military, get sent to Iraq, kill kids and rape woman then call them heroes when they get back home. I know a lot of this is part of the military marketing machine to make degenerate teens feel like they can be "something" or a "hero". 

Or how all cops are now considered heroes.    Give me a fucking break.

I AGREE with you 100%, and my father was a 30 year veteran of the Buffalo Fire Department,
and he reveived a incredible citation for bravery in 1991.
But-this has gotten out of control, all since 9/11.

Apparently Ursus u don't understand the history of ur own country especially in Northern Ireland. The British army fought a moderately successful counter-insurgency in Northern Ireland and forced Gerry Adams to the table. Most of that was because both sides were sick of the fighting. If u think we're loosing in Iraq I would invite u over to Iraq next year when on I'm tour number 3 and u can see for urself. We have and continue to kick the dogshit out of AQ and the Taliban. U tough guys think fighting this kind of war is easy. If I don't have a target or can't engage, I can't kill anything. We shit canned the Iraqi army in a matter of weeks in 2003. This isn't that kind of war. This isn't Vietnam either, we're working hard not to kill civilains. Besides Vietnam..the NVA were close to throwing in the towel, it was the American people who bailed, not the US military. U should read a few books. U could not do my job...not even close...u couldn't do any of the jobs these kids do. I think alot of people like urslef are jealous, whether it be the uniforms, the pay, the life style or some manhood envy. I've been doing this for a very long time, and will never do anything else. Whats our alternative, leave to people like u, we'd all be overrun with ragheads or Russians or Germans.

Great post! So many "Call of Duty" warriors out there(not just on this board) talk tough all day long, but really don't understand what the hell is going on out there. I just returned from a deployment in Iraq and I constantly hear from people who have never been in any type of armed conflict, exclaim "well if they mortared us from this direction I would...or "after they tried their ground attack I would...". Oh brother You have to understand that there is a lot more going on than what is being released on CNN, BBC, etc...
