all the way to just shy of lockout, down as far below the head as possible. arms at a 45 degree to the ground. using an olympic size barbell(bigger thicker bar makes gripping it much easioer)

you ever try doing them on the floor and when you bring the bar down letting it go all the way down till the plates rest on the floor for a second then press them back over your head??  i like doing them this way the best...

Ya this is a nice variation, with or without the pause at the bottom. This is the first version i ever did (and many others, when there's no bench) and in hindsight one of the best actually. This is yet another example of a partial ROM exercise being an excellent alternative.

I'm not clear what candi's version is, is he talking about letting the bar hit the bench behind the head? Used to do those, pretty good variation also worth trying with any type of BB olympic or otherwise.

i think hes just saying to let the bar go behind the head as far as possible on a bench...another great way to change them up a bt is to try them on a decline bench i also like them not as much as the floor one but still a real good move for the tri actually is my favorite overall move for tris

watch tghe video in the link i posted at the top. evan centaponni is the bigger guy out of the two. (guy cisterno is the other). i do them excactly how evan does them. (got this exercise form watching this video)....   did these again today, worked up to the same thing evan was usig in the video... olympic barbell+2 25s per side.. first set got it like 10 - 12 times..next set was like 5 orf 6 so i dropped it back to one 25 a side just like evan does...    this shit is killer my tris ached

I watched the video. This is the exact form i've espoused for years-well behind the head instead of to the face. I've always said that extensions are the no. 1 mass builder of all exercises for tris, as they both say.

I don't agree about the EZ bar, grips other than a straight bar are better for most people not only because they're a lot more comfortable but also because shorter bars are easier to balance. Some guys even use an EZ bar for close-grips for the same reason.

The best of all of those IMO that anyone should try (i'll bet he never has) is to use either a hammer grip bar or 2 hands around the end of a DB, which virtually no one does and is not only more comfortable but easier to balance. However some can use the straight bar without it hurting the wrists, especially if a wider grip's used as seen there, which also feels slightly different on the tris. The other guy doesn't do extensions, mainly because he says it hurts the shoulders not because they're not good. Skulls like he's doing hit the elbows and tris closer to the elbows far more IMO.

120 lb. is more than enough for most guys. Low reps never worked for me on tris and is tough on the muscles and connective tissues. If the reps are 10-20 and the rests are a minute or less 120 lb. or less is more than enough.

well i was using 145 with the barbell and i got it in that rep range.. so i would have to wait untill my tries were already tired if i were to use the 120lb dumbell

I like using DB's for the same thing that Evan is doing in the video. I learned those from someone on another board, and they were called "Adams Extensions."
Whatever they're called, I really like doing them though I'm not sure if I really ever did them with a Barbell.

Ya there are a few names including jm pullovers. IMO these are all actually better than using a BB but are rarely done, very few know about them.

From my experience lying extensions are one of the most abused exercises done in gyms. Most do skulls to the face, which aren't nearly as effective, are much harder on the joints and can be dangerous as your face is constantly under the weight.

Yup this is the classic; the only differences are the longer bar and a slightly wider almost shoulder grip, makes for a slightly different feel along with the usual great pump one gets from extensions.

Coe with the perfect form - long-time student lowers it even more, to below the level of the bench using an EZ curl, shorter bar (less balance issues) and the closer, knurled grip-to me this is the the best version but they're all good if the basic ROM is there. A handfull prefer the long olympic bar.

so thats what your talking about...ive always just do the "skullcraushers" to the forehead or lay on the floor and let the plates set on the floor then press them up...but i do believe i am going to try it the way coe was doing looked like a real good stretch on the tri....and i agree with you pump about the inside knurling of the ezcurl bar..
