OOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh thanks so much Garre !

"just for me" -lol-
now your fab red midriff is posted worldwide !!!

Your pix of the Afghanis continue to be indescribable, mindboggling, wonderful, they are everything:  intriguing, sad, funny, upsetting etc.

I mean, they've got spanking brand new and much fancier uniforms and sillier hats than you and yet you manage to look better, it's as if you're standing there grinning, enjoying them getting off on themselves...

thanks so much.

I'm still wondering whether we ought forward some of your pix to Reuters and get you some royalties for them, they're that good !

with mad love
xL
Your internet connection appears to be better than mine, and I'm here in central London.  Mine has been dodgy for a few days, it takes ages to get a connection...

I'm trying to work out the time frame, you must be 4 perhaps hours ahead of London, 9 hours ahead of East Coast America?

Where are you from?  Your home town?  Where your family are?

I continue to pray (though I'm not sure whether I believe in any God) that this will be the last war "the west" are involved in, the one where everyone says okay enough, shakes hands and smiles and respects everyone everywhere from then on...  I live in hope (in my dreams...

Is it about religion and ancient middle Eastern territories?  Noone knows.  It's been happening for centuries.  Benjimen Netawhatwho in Israel isn't getting along with anyone.

And now they're saying they've taken out a biggy Al Qeada man in Somalia?  Christ, I didn't know the Taliban had crossed the Red Sea and that we were fighting in Africa...

And I'm all flipped out because the IRA have been found to be plotting against Britain again.  More Irish bombs, these from civilised neighbours on one small island nextdoor against our little island.  Is it all about people taking others' land and quashing their religion?  If we can't fix issues here in the UK after all these years, I find myself wondering what the rest of the world must think.

It's madness.

Please keep the incredible pix coming.  & take care garebear

Hey, Linda.

I'm from Illinois, a small town on the Mississippi river that very few people would know about. I'm not married and have no kids.

This war is definitely about religion, in my opinion. I think religion in general, and Islam specifically, attracts so many people because they get a feeling of moraly superiority. The people who are not with them, who do not accept their sacred truth, are somehow below them. In turn, they feel it their duty to 'save' the rest of the world from the horrible mistake of not falling under the one true path. This is why the Christians had the Crusades and why OBL wants his caliphate. Plus, it is hard to reason with men who will beat women for showing their ankles. That is a cultural divide that I am not sure can be bridged.

I served stateside from 2003-2006, never got deployed. In the US Army, we have to sign an eight year obligation for our original enlistment, however. I was teaching kindergarten in China at this time last year, but after I got back to the States, I was called back to the Army. My orders arrived in the mail on Friday, February 13th. I had been back in the country about two weeks.

My internet connection goes through China, for reasons I am not sure of. It is very slow and I often am unable to attach photos in email, but they usually work on here. I am 9 and 1/2 hours ahead of US Central Time Zone. I didn't know any country in the world was capable of having a half hour time difference, but that's Afghanistan for you.

I know very little about the conflict with the IRA, just a couple of movies I've watched over the years.

Ministry of Defense (MOD) in Kabul.

That is very near where the car bomb went off a few days ago that killed six Italians. And the other car bomb that I have pictures of on here.

I hope we quit driving near there but I doubt it.

We went to a school today, if that's what you want to call it. It's actually a bunch of tents in the middle of a cemetery.

I was driving and wasn't even allowed to get out of the truck, which sucked. Anyways, this is the only picture I was able to get.

A couple of kids talking to an Afghan soldier. Next time, I'll just give my camera to someone who gets to dismount. I still want pics of the kids.

Here is a pic from today. These girls were not allowed to go to school under the Taliban.

People can say what they want about the war, but there is no arguing that, if we had not come, these girls would not have been in class today.

Why is it strange?  Should I have chosen a more colorful picture?

My point is that there is poverty everywhere.  Although I am deeply saddened by the picture your posted, I am also reminded that we have MANY in severe poverty here in the United States as well.

Sadly, ...far too many things about America boil down to Black & White.  :'(

Garebear,

Thanks for those pics. You must feel extremely satisfied with what you're accomplishing over there.
Any man that can handle both a classroom of 5 yr olds., as well as a rifle in Afghanistan must be one helluva man!

Stay Safe so you can come back to North America soon, ...or back to the kiddies in China.  :)
