A friend of mine who sponsors shows asks Dexter to guest pose for him for a up coming bodybuilding show.Dexter says, he charges $8000. The guy says, thats to much, can you do it for $5000, and Dexter, says, no I have to pay my bills. So then my friend see's Toney Freeman and asks him how much he would charge to guest pose.

Before Toney could answer, Dexter buts in and says, Tony don't take less then $8000, because he has to pay his bills.When I heard this I was like WTF.??.  The promoter I'm talking about is a nice guy, who puts on a great show, and is respected by the bodybuilding community.

mr o or not 8k is alot of money for a bber. what do athletes get at those card shows upfront?  i'm talking more the middle of pack guys. what kind of money and attendance do these shows have that bring in the big names?

Our local show in Ireland normally breaks even or loses a small amount of money but its a gym run show and cos our gym is a non-profit making organistion it means if we dont spend the money on something then mr.taxman will take it for himself

He picked Dorian, and it ended up forging a friendship that lasts to this day. At one point, when I first walked into the gym, there were signatures of Dorian painted on the walls. Apparently the owner & Dorian got a little too much wine in them one night and went to town spray painting numerous walls, posters and even equipment. At one point, there was a 3' high signature of Dorian behind the deadlift platform...that motivated the hell out of me to train for some reason.
I also loved listening to Gary (owner of the gym) tell the story of Dorian backstage at the same contest, and the crowds reaction when Dorian first walked out.

Bodybuilders have been getting paid 3-5gs for guest posing since the mid 90's.  If you calculate the inflation rate for 5gs it ends up being just under 7gs for the previous 5g mark. 

Problem is you can argue that the popularity of bodybuilding has dropped significantly since that time, I don't know.  I do know that more people attend the Olympia and Arnold than ever before, I can't speak about local shows.  In addition, he is a Mr. O so 8gs isn't outside the norm.  I don't like how he handled the situation with Tony. That was classless.

we're less than thrilled at the fact he stepped in when Freeman was being asked the same question, and
said "Tony don't take less than 8000 neither"... if this is in fact true, that's classless.

you'd never see Jay ask for 8000, the guy says its too much, and goes to speak to someone else regarding the
same situation, and Jay butts in and says "uh, he doesn't take less than 8000$ neither, he's got bills to pay"
