Now, if they lose the racial undertone and actually bring up issues that DO affect the majority of Americans, like lower wages, no health insurance, working longer hours... then they can begin to talk about a true mass-based movement. That will really piss off the representatives in Washington.

In the mean time... the Tea Party march was just a good way to spend a Saturday away from the wives.

That's all.

Epic failure in my opinion.

It was just enough people protesting to get Benny to actually spend some of his precious time and have to comment in this thread.  Remember, he doesn't waste his time on irrelevant things so I'd say that makes it a success. :D

I'm so happy to see the conservative base of the USA coming together, united, finally.

Now, can they just select a candidate who is NOT a sexual deviant or a religious zealout, or an idiot?

Seriously, you guys went with crazy old man and eye candy in 2008.  You see how that worked out.  How about a clean-cut, hard-working candidate?  No drama, no bullshit.  Get a professional in there and just fix shit.

Can you do that?  Please?

As usual your analysis is totally wrong. The candidates on the right were perfectly legitimate in comparison to what the left put up at the plate. The crazy old man as you put it is a decorated war hero who has left his mark in washington as someone who has diligently fought against corruption. Not only is he an independent thinker that is willing to break party lines to get things done, but he is extremely well respected, experienced and has twice as much integrity as any other member of Congress on either side of the aisle. The problem was Palin, who was not seasoned enough of a politician to garner enough support for the ticket. By and large her shortcomings made her too polarizing a candidate for the majority of Americans to accept. Throw in the media's hatchet job on her, the fact that her daughter caused a shitstorm of controversy, and the fact that she was inexperienced, and its not hard to figure out why the McCain camp's calculated selection of a female VP backfired.

With that being said, none of the aforementioned matters at all. Obama and Biden were elected for 3 reasons, and 3 reasons only- (1) The economic collapse (2) George Bush is a republican (3) McCain's independent way of thinking alienated a significant portion of the republican base.

I would bet the house that if things continue to decline with Obama as president and the poll numbers continue to fall like a brick, a McCain/ Palin ticket in 2012 would soundly beat just about any democratic candidates including the incumbents in the presidential election. The only exception might be if Hillary runs again.

GW,

In 2012, if you had to rank the top 20 candidate the Repubs should run, where would you place palin?

Personally, I would like the repubs to run the BEST candidate.  Not someone liek her who might be good enough now.

I really want the R's to deliver a good candidate, for the good of America.  No, a great candidate.  pakistan's leader hit on her, for god's sake.  She thanked prank caller of French president for praising her work in a damn porn movie.

Please, repubs, run an awesome candidate.   Don't run someone who has nice thighs.  Run a person who the world will fvcking fear, who is smart with money, who has their ducks in a  row.

how many ppl were at the event?

Anyone?   2 mil isn't accurate - what was the correct number?

10K would be more accurate than 2M.

it is weird that FOX and the right-wingers would trust a lib media outlet (despite no written report of 2 millions!) - over a very non-partisan DC police dept.

Now, if this report never exists, and the organizer just plain LIED, and FOX repeated the LIE all day long...

That just looks terrible.   Just terrible :(

March on D.C. draws 2 million!
September 12, 3:46 PM
________________________ ________________-

The photo above is a view of part of the crowd of protesters who gathered in Washington, D.C. and around the country today to demand control of reckless runaway government spending and to voice their opposition to the government takeover of healthcare.

D.C. police estimates the crowd at 1.2 million.  ABC News, however, reported this afternoon that the crowd was estimated at 2 million.

No matter which way you cut it, the size and scope of today's citizen march on Washington is an historic, groundbreaking event.  Ordinary citizens who have been called 'the great silent majority' normally do not protest...at least not in public.  That day is long gone.

The outrage expressed by normal, everyday citizens from across the nation at the town hall meetings in August is a case in point.  Never before in recent history or memory have citizens been so clearly, visibly--and audibly--enraged by the actions of their government.

These are the people who go to work everyday, pay the bulk of the taxes of the country, raise families, and do their best to provide a safe environment for themselves in their local communities.  They don't have time for 'political activism' as the hippies who protested the Viet Nam war.

Yet these dedicated men and women, at great personal expense, took the time to travel to Washington to make their voices heard in a tsunami of collective rage, mainly because they have become convinced that their elected leaders are not listening to them any longer.

And you bet they want 'change.'  They want to replace most if not all of the Representatives and Senators in Congress for being hopelessly out of touch with the citizenry.  They want a President who loves liberty, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and who reflects that love in the policies that are proposed.  They don't want leftwing, radical extremists who espouse everything from forced abortions, healthcare rationing for the elderly, limiting free speech on radio, and other social and political engineering from bureaucrats who sit comfortably in their Washington offices while demanding that ordinary citizens in the heartland adhere to edicts that the politicians have no intention of following.

Further, these patriotic 'peasants with pitchforks and torches' clearly do not want the trillion-dollar proposals that add mind-boggling burdens to the national debt and budget deficit for generations to come.  And they don't want their taxes raised to pay for the Washington elitists' insistence on unheard-of government spending that is sending the nation into debtor's quicksand to the tune of 400 billion dollars per month since Obama took office.

The question is, will Pelosi, Reid, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Steny Hoyer, Charles Rangle, and Barack Obama get the message and alter the present course?  Don't count on it.

But one thing is for sure.  The sleeping giant of the 'great silent majority' has been awakened, and they aren't going anywhere.

Where is this estimation?  in print?  ABC says it never existed.  In this age of internet caches, if thye wrote it or said it on the air, there is a copy somewhere.

Say 1.5 million. For the heck of it. Bottom line is that that represents only 0.53% of Americans. Line up 500 people, pick one out of the lineup and that is the # of Americans who did the Beck walk yesterday.

To me it looks more and more like a legitimate, but small, popular movement.

It will eventually dissipate. Same for Glenn Beck.
Your math is wrong.

1 out of 500 is 0.20%
1 out of 200 is 0.50%

Now subtract kids and teens...

1 out of 100 is not bad. It''s a start...

I saw it on their web site - 1.5 - 2 million. Since then they obiously took it down and changed it. I wish I had made a screen capture of it.

It said they estimated crowd sizes at that?  Or "expected" numbers?

It should be HELLA easy for them to prove ABC is outright lying here.  If it is, it's a major black eye for ABC news, if they said 1.5 to 2 mil were there.

If mysteriously, none of the FOX, beck, or organizer people can find a cached copy of that story, it will certainly smell fishy.

Thanks for the heads-up. Just changed it.

1 out of 100 would be "a start" if the population was 100. The Million Man March gathered many more Americans the the Tea Party March and, in the end, look at how much the first accomplished.

Many people do agree with some of the things that are being said by the Tea Party crowd, but it is going to be mighty hard to get the NAACP and the KKK to push the same agenda.

That has more to do with a main source just throwing out a number and the tendency of the other media outlets to just repeat it as fact.

Wow u lib douchbags are really scared huh...who cares how many people came...the live video showed tens of thousands and the cops said the numbers were huge..i doubt there were close to a million but who knows...the fact that Barry and his agenda are failing epically and destroying the country along the way should be the big worry.

333386 does.  The event organizer does.  michelle malki does.  They all gloated on the 2 mil number.

Pic show 60k - which is awesome and quite admirable - but it's about 1,840,000 people shy of the numbers they gloated.

if they hadn't gloated on the number, libs wouldn't be gloating on the gross over-estimation.

Look head, I'm not questioning the numbers, in that I'm as blind to what I'm told as you are.

What I am hearing A LOT from the TP people, or people afiliated to that group, is the word "liberal". I don't know if you know this or not, but there are many liberals out there that agree with the TPM and what you have to say, but please, moderate the bullshit down a bit dude. Be inclusive. Be smart.

If you guys walk down to the capital shouting insults and ridiculing everyone to the left of Adolf Hitler you're going to lose a good chunk of the American People, and you'll end up looking like a group of gun-owning, tax-hating, religious, rich white men who want to turn the TP into their little private club.

Tens of thousands of conservative protesters, many complaining that the nation is racing toward socialism, massed outside the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, angrily denouncing President Obama's health-care plan and other initiatives as threats to the Constitution.
....

Staff writers Joel Achenbach, Paul Duggan, Dan Eggen and Anne E. Kornblut contributed to this report.

Here's how the 1.2 million number was calculated:The cops don't count them they use known measurements and then guess. This march was huge compared to what people thought it would be....Conservatives and the folks who marched usually don't march, they vote and do other things but they generally don't march. These aren't all Conservatives or Republicans..these are indy's that voted for Barry as well...or Dems. Barry has as much a problem with the blue dogs as he does the Repubs.

Slapper...if the shoe fits, if not. The TPM is not all Repubs, of that I'm aware. Both parties have lost huge huge numbers to the independents. As for you last bit....I think people need to taske the high road..no Hitler shit, the Joker thing and socialism stuff is fine...no racist shit....if the march is about no healthcare then keep it on that. Ever been to an anti-war rally...EVERY leftist cause is represented..I don't want to go down that road. So I agree :o

Straw these aren't just Cons....

HOt Air blog site.
Route as shown in the timelapse - 1.1 miles
Width of Pennsylvania Avenue - 90 feet (8 lanes wide)
Accepted density of people in such a crowd - 4 for every 10 square feet
Time to traverse the route - 22 minutes (at a stroll)
Number of people it takes to FILL the entire route - ~150,000 to 210,000 (depending on density)
Number of times that many people traverse it in the Traffic Cam - 4 or 5 times, minimum.
The estimates of 1.2 million for the ENTIRE day seem pretty accurate. That’s why the D.C. police is using that.

Anyone have any official/nonpartisan estimates? I’ve seen numbers ranging from 50,000 on the low end (from David Shuster, natch) up to “a healthy six figures” from Reason’s Matt Welch on up to the two million figure cited by the boss earlier this morning, which ABC insists it never reported. As of a few hours ago, D.C. police were refusing to make any estimates but ABC got some unspecified city officials on the record claiming there 60,000 to 75,000 people there. Any other numbers floating around? E-mail me if so. I think using protest size as a gauge of popular sentiment is stupid — witness the huge turnouts against the war in early 2003 when public support was in the neighborhood of 65 percent — but it’s a fun talking point, so let’s have fun.
Two videos of the crowd for you to peruse. One is a time-lapse from a traffic cam of people gathering this morning, the other is of MSNBC anchor Alex Witt marveling at the scale of the rally. Believe it or not, there were lefties speculating on Twitter today that the photo Michelle posted this morning was bogus because the flag in the foreground appears to be at half-mast; it must have been a photo of a lefty protest from years ago, the theory went, for surely the right couldn’t muster a throng of that size. Compare it to the videos, though, and you’ll see that the shot’s obviously from today. Alas, 9/12 Truth, we hardly knew ye!
Update: However big it was, it was bigger than expected. From the NYT: “Many came on their own and were not part of an organization or group. But the magnitude of the rally took the authorities by surprise, with throngs of people streaming from the White House to Capitol Hill for more than three hours.”

Here's one thing i love about this board...its a microcosm of America. Its pretty easy to figure out where everybody falls out on all this crap. I have to say that people here have changed their minds on Ol' Barry after the last few months. For those who haven't what exactly did ur boy say on Tuesday night? Having suffered through it, I'd have to say nothing. He provided nothing new other then he wants a bill past. He says nothing all the time...Hil would have bored us with facts, but atleast she had em. People don't want this, they want reform, u can do that easily with both parties readily agreeing and compromising. He says and does nothing.....
