My couch potato managing skills say Girardi did a shitty job last night
Your couch potato skills are absolutely correct. Girardi is starting to over manage a team that doesn't need it. He is placing way too much on his statistical analysis and failing to see the big picture.
Twice in two games he has left our lineup in shambles and reduced the bullpen to Chad Gaudin.
The Aceves move was easily the worst. Dave Robertson has sort have been a secret weapon this year. (Best k/inning ratio in MLB this year, I believe). He was cruising through 2 batters, and had only thrown 11 pitches. Girardi pulls him with two outs and brings in Aceves, because the fucking computer must have told him Aceves' stuff is more prone to getting a guy like Kendrick out. Ridiculous. All he did was substitute a very good pitcher for an inferior one, and the game was lost.
Now, if Swisher and any other hitter outside of ARod, Jeter, and Posada would do anything (Swisher blew it in two big spots with one out and a man on third) he wouldn't have this problem.
It's hard to really complain about a team that's now 5-1 in the playoffs this year, but that was a very winnable games. Don't want to give Anaheim any chances.
