experts: between these 2 routines which is tougher?
« on: October 06, 2009, 01:31:42 PM »
just a generalization, but what is tougher and more advanced of a workout:

1) splitting the body up working out monday, wednesday and friday or

2) splitting the body up working out monday, tuesday, thursday and friday?

with both days basically using the same amount of exercises, sets, etcetera.

newbie here wanting to know how to proceed. right now i'm doing the full body workout of monday, wednesday and friday (with cardio tues, thurs, sat), but from there where to go next?

either 1 or 2?

only for 4 months, with different exercises for each muscle group changed every month, ready to dive into something more complex and difficult!

i use a 5 day a week routine, i always use the same compound/power movements but i change my pumping movements every workout.

if you been on it for 4 months, then it couldnt hurt to go to a 4 or 5 day a week program.

It's not a question of which is tougher, but the one that gives you the best all around gains. Tougher does not always mean it's going to be for the best gain. If swinging around a pair of milk cartons gives the greatest pump in you life and you gain 1" on your guns in a month, than thats the best for you and only you. Would say the 4 day split was the dumbest over the 3 day split, as a general rule of thumb. Good Luck..

Side Bar: no expert, just like working out.

"Tougher" is relative.

I have never witnessed one of your workouts.

The question is this: Are you making gains?

Or this: Are you getting stronger?

If neither is happening, then you have stagnated- assuming you were ever making gains in the first place. If you have indeed "stagnated" you may be either 1) overtraining, or 2) not training "tough" enough (that is, with enough "intensity")

You should always be tracking your progress.

1) Testing bodyfat against Lean Body Mass
2) Making sure that you are getting stronger
3) Keeping meticulous records of your workouts, food and body composition.

Some folks would say this kind of record keeping is overkill, but with all of the questions and interest you display here lately, I would think a daily training log would be the only way to give you the answers you are looking for.

Knowledge is power. Doing your research doesn't just mean asking questions, it also means answering them with your own experiences. I believe that is called "empirical data"

Good luck Beavis.

It is tougher to train the body over three day but less productive. With a four day spilt you could do less bodyparts each workout and put more into it . The time you spend in the gym will be shorter also.
