sort of used to look like a HUGE version of Kurt Angle.

Any confirmations that he was that strong. I remember the MuscleMag articles blowing up his spot saying 585 incines , 800lbs squats , 500lbs behind neck press. And those were all for weight for reps.Chris Cormier called bullshit on alot of it.

Where's Squadfather when you need him. He would have JUMPED on that and claimed BULLSHIT right away.

But what the hell happened to Greg?  ???

He looked pretty good in the past. He did his pro debut at the 1997 Night Of The Champions, he looked quite good, spilled over and did not place. Then he said that next year he will be in good shape...in '98 he placed 16th at the Ironman...

Then he took 2 years off then came back to the Night Of Champions again in 2001 and did not place again, not even finished the prejudging as I know. And he looked much worse than in the years before.

Then he took 2 years off again and came back at the 2004 Arnold. He was in very good shape and still looked like a nightmare...really-really bad.

Anyway he did the 2005 Toronto Pro too...and he did not place.

What the fuck happened to him? And did he have any sponsors? How he made money? Why he didn't compete more regularly?

I can't understand.

He was sponsored by Muscletech.  They launched the original Muscletch stack with his ads.  He was picked up briefly by another company after that.  I think the ads only ran for a few months.

From what I was told by a guy who brought him out for a seminar and knew some of the same people, it sounds like he did everything in excess.  Huge amounts of food and drugs.  Barely moved when he wasn't in the gym (his wife pretty much did everything for him).

I knew him personally when he lived in Toronto, through Henderson (Thorne) and other friends, you described him to a T, he hated competing as well that's why he didn't do it more often, he only competed when the dude who started muscletech got on his ass other then that he was happy as a pig in shit, getting $200,000 from muscletech every year + more for seminar's and posing appearances, he overdid it with the growth and insulin.

The story on here was that he was crying backstage begging to not have to go out there as that burn victim freak and the supp company forced him under threat of legal action.

Not sure if true but it's a great story and his face is hilarious in the pics

What was the association between MuscleTech and MUSCLEMAG?

PS - was Greg 6'2 and 1/2 and up to 400 pounds in the off-season?

The guy who founded and owns muscletech WAS a musclemag (store) employee, he ripped off the formala to Ripped Fuel and started selling it on his own as the original hydroxycut (back when ephedrine was legal) I forget his name Paul or John Gardiner, he was in the very first few muscletech/hydroxycut ads... lo and behold many years later, musclemag is almost out of business and going under (barely any stores left) and Muscletech is the main sponsor at the Olympia... Kovacs met Gardiner at a musclemag store, he was one of his first main endorsers you could say, thus Gardiner remained loyal to Kovacs when he blew up with muscletech and took Kovacs along for the ride keeping him under his wing and using him to market a ton of product over the years.. this all happened literally 10 minutes from where I live, LOL... Greg's old house is like 7 minutes from my place.

Did you see the piece Hard Copy did on Muscle Tech supplements around 2000?  They tested Muscle Tech products and found they nowhere near matched what the labels claimed.  GNC said they were pulling all their products and then the whole thing just seemed to disappear.

Georges St. Pierre vs Greg Kovacs both at their prime in the cage.

Discuss.
