Of course it mattered. It goes to the very heart of the issue. Do you really think that Bush alone steered the country in a direction you didn't like? Reality is that Bush and the people he put in key positions steered the country. Bankers got to collect welfare, not just because of Bush, but because of Bush appointees.
You and 240 seem to be of like mind that two wrongs equal a right. I would challenge you to try thinking for yourself and not along party lines and individually ask, "Is this person good for our country".
Obviously, of the thousands of appointees, the majority are going to be good, solid, experienced candidates. But, for those few questionable ones that are brought to light (such as those who admire Mao), consider if they're truly good for the country without being a party hack.
