Bible indicates that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are one God in 3 persons.....can be very difficult to grasp though for sure!
According to lore, the flesh of Mary - just like Adam - was *needed* to make the prophecies come true. So, that's why she and Adam are given such great credit by certain groups.
Also, Mormons - who claim to be Christians - also deny the godhead of traditional Christianity. According to them, Heavenly Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are 3 completely separate entities, not 1.
This allows them to justify putting Joseph Smith on the same god-level as Jesus.

(remind me to tell you later what one particular Mormon told me about this....)
Another important thing to note is that the idea of the Holy Trinity as canon for the Christian church was actually determined by a simple vote.
