Hey Van.........Any further comment on how you said Layne uses a special "Kung Fu Grip" when he deadlifts because using straps make you weaker in the pull. And that you can actually pull 100 lbs more without straps ?
Yeah, I didn't even look at the video before commenting. I just assumed based on Sev's comment that he did it without straps. So my bad.
However, using straps will reduce the amount you can pull for many powerlifters. Just ask a sample of deadlift specialists (powerlifters). For a few straps can improve their dead,
if grip is the limiting factor.Yes, I can pull 100lbs more without straps. Sitting down adjusting your straps doesn't allow for a 'grip and rip' technique. You can't pull in as much air either before starting the lift. The less time you spend in the starting position the better.
I haven't seen Layne say his grip often fails with a hook grip. Who knows, maybe it does. I think using straps is more of a comfort issue for him. 700 resting on the thumb isn't comfortable.
