It's a lace front wig. The mesh is attached to the skin by glue, then covered with makeup. He may have had a poor makeup job to cover it well or most probably sweated it off which is why the mesh is visible at his temples.

In Pelham 123 he was without rug. Gutty for a major actor. Good movie (as was the original), good actor. Just as a side bar....Travolta is a big gay boy who has had a few sexual law suits file against him in the past. Money does solve a lot of future problems. Kelly Preston makes a very good beard.
