Uh, no. It was proven to be a proven Hollywood invetion. Was on the history channel. Two outlaws who cared not about law and order and one who probably shot the sheriff and the other who probably shot sheriff are not going to stand in the
middle of the street and face one another. Think about current shootouts, you are going try and shoot the person as quickly as possible.
Back then there was no code of duelling. And most cowboys were either Mexican or black, they were
farmhands. Not the Marlboro man stereotype.
And Manbearpig, the outlaws didn't care about Indians, they were outlaws. I forgot which city it was but it had the highest rate of murders than anywhere in the US, still. And the Undertakers in most WW towns had the best business, they would make a killing. the Indians didn't want encroachment, and felt threatened.
You do know that the US government broke every treaty they had with the Indians. And no not all Indian tribes were the good spirits, some lived off of raping and pilliaging, but you don't hear about them.
But let's not forget the fact that Pioneer America practically killed off the Buffalo population, the mountain population, the timber wolf pop, had exterminated the passager pigeon and the Carolina Parakeet. Among other things.
And let's not forget, that many of the WW outlaws teamed up with hostile Indians to do robberies,and killings.
