Avoiding plateau
« on: December 04, 2009, 03:42:33 PM »
Since coming back from a long layoff......Ive been thinking about how to avoid a plateau. Ive been thinking about doing strictly weight training for 2 months, basically what ive been doing, then every third month, do some kind of endurance, plyometric, body weight routine for a month, just to give my body a rest from weights and avoid plateau. Just a thought.........Or maybe training for 3 months doing weight training then every 4th month do some kind of bodyweight exercise routine.

Nothing wrong with breaking things up. Taking a break from the weights and doing bodyweight exercises is a great idea. The below link is an excellent book on body weight conditioning.   http://www.rosstraining.com/

Guys that laugh at body weight exercises are the same guys that completely fall apart trying to keep up with a guy in condition doing chins, dips, push ups and burpees.

Get ready to lose some power and some size if you switch to bodyweight exercises.

IMO,I would still lift but just change the protocol.
