Bob Chick we need your advices
« on: December 18, 2009, 01:18:58 AM »
I have seen you talk about how bodybuilding is a world of "opposites."  Such as to work the inner bicep you need to use a wide grip on the barbell etc...  Can you elaborate more on this for the getbiggers who may not be familiar with this?

Well, you pretty much summed it up.....all muscles work in opposites. This especially holds true for working BACK, which for some reason, people still think working wide will promote width...CLOSE grip movements will do more for width, wide grip movements will help with thickness...

DORIAN YATES in some of his seminars said that if your grip is too wide for pulldowns you can`t use as much weight as using a normal grip and that`s equal more weight in pull downs more mass in lats...If I find a clip of that seminar I `ll post it here...

Basically saying not to go too heavy, as youll ultimately be using/ involving more muscles than the lats you're trying to use...

LOL...ANY exercises are good ones these days!

It's the schedule and business that seems to get in the way, priorities change, my daughter demands more and more time, and travel is brutal...other than that...I try to get 3-4 days per week..still use a 50/50 split of machines and free weights...prefer single BP/ day...more often due to travel, find myself having to combine...

Cardio needs to increase...need to get lean and mean for the upcoming year, and TV stuff...270 looks like 300 on camera! LOL...I'm thinking 240-45 would be a good weight

could you see yourself concentrating on mainly X frame type movements (upper/outer pec, side delt, outer quad etc) rather than trying to maintain overall size?

Size? who's looking at size these days?  I'm looking to cut it down....my "size " days are over...especially legs...much easier to fit into pants now

Bob, in your honest opinion. How long do you believe someone should train for and build a foundation before hitting the sauce??

Never as a teenager, in your early twenties if competition/ going pro is a REAL probability...and mid to late 20s if not...after that, maintinence dosages/ HRT for preservation

True.  I believe I get the best width results from close reverse grip pull downs.

The better u look, the shittier u feel. That's what Jay Cutler once said. And when u feel like your minutes before death, lean and dehydrated on contest day, that's when u look the best.

People still believe you can target "inner pecs"?  ??? :D

Targeting upper and lower pecs is hard enough, but inner and outer? Please.  :D

You can, I usually focus on inner pecs 4 weeks before the contest, when drugs are just the finishing touch.

Inner pec injections? Might work.

Do you need a diagram? Why does he have to spell it out for you? He's quoted the priniciple of opposites several times, use your head. Want to build up inner chest? Work with a wide grip. This is simple.
