Wrong! The gloves are used in boxing to protect the hands. The head is much harder than the hands.
Well, I actually box, not so sure you do, so I might know something about it. Gloves do help protect the hands, but like I said before, wrapping your hands is mostly what protects them. 4oz MMA gloves do that job just fine.
As far as FlexB's comment about it being a "whopping" 4 oz difference, I know you have never boxed or fought MMA or you would know the difference between a 4oz glove and an 8oz one is HUGE. Think about how many knockouts you see in a 3 round MMA fight compared to the number of knockouts you see in the first 3 rounds of a boxing match. Its just common sense to realize the twice the padding makes an enormous difference in the number of punchs you can take. Why do you think boxers use 12oz or bigger gloves when they are sparring? It isn't to protect their hands, its to reduce the punishment you take during sparring.
K-1, thanks for the kind words, but I'm not anything special because I still fight at my age. What else can I do? I can't get younger, so all I can do is keep going
