A good friend of mine died of a brain hemorrhage this past weekend. He had recently purchased P90X to get into shape and had also purchased a chin-up bar. The chin-up bar was the kind that you screw into the door frame via brackets. He was training in his basement and for some reason one of the brackets holding the bar to the frame gave away and he hit his head on the concrete floor of his unfinished basement. His wife found him and he was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died 2 days later.

Didn't appear to be fault of the equipment. Somehow the screws holding the bracket to the wall pulled out of the wood.

really a shame but it underscores how you should always check your equipment and don't buy cheap junk in the first place.....

No matter what the quality of the equipment, it always pays to triple check everything, and over build when possible. A fella named Ernie "Beef" Beath almost died a when pin on a power rack slipped and dumped a #765 bench press on his face. Luckly, he survived and is quite the overhead presser now-a-days.
