But they held the highpowered Chargers' offense to field goals during the critical stretches of the game. The Chargers offense got handled. The Jets wanted to make the game a hard hitting grind and the Chargers didn't want any of that.
The Chargers didn't beat themselves, they just got beat. It wasn't just the missed field goals. They forced Rivers to throw two critical interceptions and played great team defense.
I'm sure this stems from you being a Rex Ryan guy and I have all the respect in the world for the Jets defense, but to just dismiss one of the top kickers in the league going 0-3, two of which were well within his range, is overlooking that the Chargers moved the ball all day against the Jets, but just kept shooting themselves in the foot.....did the Jets contribute to that? Sure, but there is no way a game that ends 17-14 can be looked at as one team kicking the shit out of the other.
SD did the annual flameout and played the worst game they played since starting 2-3 and yet they still had every opportunity to win it.
